Obstructive Ventilatory Dysfunctions-Functional Assessment and Rehabilitation Program.

Background: Obstructive ventilatory dysfunctions have an increased incidence, and through functional assessment determined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), appropriate treatment can be established.

Aims: The objectives of our research are represented by the application of respiratory rehabilitation sessions according to the ICF in patients with obstructive ventilatory dysfunctions-with COPD or asthma, using a unique, international language and the evaluation of the results obtained before and after completion pulmonary rehabilitation.

Methods: We conducted a randomized prospective study between November 2022-April 2023, which included 84 patients diagnosed with obstructive ventilatory dysfunctions and who performed respiratory rehabilitation.

Background: Definition of tumor control and treatment failure after Gammaknife radiosurgery (GKRS) for vestibular schwannoma (VS) is still debated. The lack of knowledge on the dynamics of tumor evolution can lead to misinterpretation and subsequent inappropriate second treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the post-GKRS dynamics of evolution of tumor volume, and characterize volumetric patterns.

We conducted a retrospective observational study at the Clinical County Hospital Mureș involving patients with lung cancer. The parameters analyzed included histopathological type (NSCLC: squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma; SCLC), molecular mutations (EGFR, ALK, PD-L1), parameters from the complete blood count, inflammatory parameters, and associated comorbidities.

Interactions between Cognitive, Affective, and Respiratory Profiles in Chronic Respiratory Disorders: A Cluster Analysis Approach.

This study conducted at Leamna Pulmonology Hospital investigated the interrelations among cognitive, affective, and respiratory variables within a cohort of 100 patients diagnosed with chronic respiratory conditions, utilizing sophisticated machine learning-based clustering techniques. Spanning from October 2022 to February 2023, hospitalized individuals confirmed to have asthma or COPD underwent extensive evaluations using standardized instruments such as the mMRC scale, the CAT test, and spirometry. Pre- and Post-COVID-19 Antimicrobial Resistance Pattern of Pathogens in an Intensive Care Unit.

We aimed to determine the trend of the antimicrobial resistance pattern of pathogens isolated in samples collected from patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) in selected periods before and after COVID-19. A retrospective study of bacterial pathogens was performed on 1267 patients. Positive bacterial culture data from 1695 samples from the pre-COVID-19 period and 1562 samples from the post-COVID-19 period were obtained.

Riedel's lobe is a rare anatomical variant of the liver, more often being diagnosed incidentally, with the patient being investigated for other underlying pathology. Here, we report a case of a non-palpable Riedel's lobe in a 47-year-old man, smoker, and chronic alcohol consumer, who presented to the hospital with epigastric pain radiating in the right hypochondrium, accompanied by nausea.

Background: Indicator condition guided HIV testing is a proven effective strategy for increasing HIV diagnosis in health care facilities. As part of the INTEGRATE Joint Action, we conducted four pilot studies, aiming to increase integrated testing for HIV/HCV/HBV and sexually transmitted infections, by introducing and expanding existing indicator condition guided HIV testing methods.

Methods: Pilot interventions included combined HIV/HCV testing in a dermatovenerology clinic and a clinic for addictive disorders in Lithuania; Increasing HIV testing rates in a tuberculosis clinic in Romania by introducing a patient information leaflet and offering testing for HIV/HCV/sexually transmitted infections to chemsex-users in Barcelona.

Effect of dietary phytochemicals from tomato peels and rosehip meal on the lipid peroxidation of eggs from laying hens.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with tomato peels (TP) and rosehip meal (RM) on their phytochemicals transfer to the egg, the antioxidant profile and the markers of lipid peroxidation in stored eggs. The experiment was conducted on 42-week-old TETRA SL laying hens, which were assigned to three dietary treatments with 30 birds each: the Control group (CON) received a corn-soybean diet containing 6% flaxseed meal without any by-product addition. Groups TP and RM received Diet CON with additionally 2% TP and 2% RM, respectively.

By producing coefficients that integrate information across all scales and that are normalized with respect to theoretical maximally segregated configurations, this framework provides a practical and powerful tool for the comparative empirical analysis of urban segregation. We illustrate our method with a study of ethnic mixing in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Effect of dietary chromium supplementation on meat nutritional quality and antioxidant status from broilers fed with Camelina-meal-supplemented diets.

Poultry meat is a valuable source of nutrients and the enrichment with health-promoting substances such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) is an important factor for consumers' choice. Camelina meal (Camelina sativa) is an animal feedstuff used to achieve this goal, but the administration of n-3 PUFA-enriched diets in broiler nutrition can accelerate the oxidative processes in meat leading to a decreased quality of final product. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the organic Cr as chromium picolinate (CrPic) on meat quality, fatty acid profile of fat and oxidative stability of meat from broilers fed supplemented dietary Camelina meal.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Romania, which has the highest TB incidence in the European Union.

Methods: We undertook a retrospective study to describe changing trends in the main epidemiological indicators of TB in Romania from 1995 to 2016. Data were obtained from the Marius Nasta Institute of Pneumology, Bucharest, official data published by the National Center for Public Health Statistics and Informatics in Health Statistics Yearbooks, the European Health For All database and the World Health Organization 2017 global TB report.

Therapy Side Effects in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Glucosteroids (GS) are widely used drugs for various inflammatory pathologies (Nephrotic syndrome, Proliferative glomerulonephritis, Extramembrane glomerulonephritis, Nephropathy of the Nodous Poliarterita (PAN), Nephropathy from purple Henoch-Schonlein, lupus nephropathy (LN), Acute adrenal insufficiency Waterhouse-Friederichsen, Chronic adrenal insufficiency Addison, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Polymyositis and dermatomyositis, Chronic granulomatosis, Crohn's disease, Hemorrhagic rectocolitis, Hemolytic anemias, Acute leukemias and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma). Although they are prescribed for their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, they also have many side effects, hyperglycemia being one of the most common and representative, which is why these drugs need careful monitoring when administered over the long term. This paper presents the case of a 39 year old patient diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with class IV lupus nephropathy (LN) who developed numerous complications due to the pathogenic side effects: diabetes, amenorrhea, recurrent infections, and depression.

Long disease-free survival following total sternal resection and reconstruction of the sternum with acrylic cement for unique massive sternal metastasis after operated breast cancer.

Unique sternal metastasis is an uncommon finding in the follow-up of operated breast cancer. We present a case of massive sternal metastasis occurred few years after radical resection of a right mammary cancer, that we solved by total sternal resection and reconstruction of sternum with acrylic cement and Vicryl mesh. The patient is disease-free five years after the operation.

Occupational exposure to urinary bladder carcinogens - risk factors, molecular mechanisms and biomarkers.

Bladder cancer (BC) is one of the most frequent forms of cancer, particularly in Caucasian population. Many environmental factors are recognized as carcinogenic in humans for this form of neoplasia and some of them are related to occupation. In order to illustrate these effects, we have selected several relevant cases with smoking and occupational exposure to carcinogens and their histopathological findings.

Tuberculosis and its particularities in Romania and worldwide.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health issue, with a rising incidence since the beginning of this century. It poses a severe mortality risk and also poses a serious economic risk as it reduces the working capacity of an individual in the most productive part of life. Developing countries face widespread tuberculosis infection - up to 95% of all cases and 98% of deaths, respectively.

Profile of Respiratory and Extra-Respiratory Tuberculosis in Patients Living with HIV in Dolj County between 2005-2015.

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is the commonest and the deadliest opportunistic infection in patients living with HIV/ AIDS.

Purpose: The paper aims to assess patients with and without TB-HIV coinfection in Dolj county registered in Regional and National database in order to identify risk factors for progression to active TB for immunodepresive patients.

Material And Method: We performed a retrospective descriptive study using records of 336 patients infected with HIV (PIH)-data from medical charts between 2005-2015 and we compared with the data for 1120 patients without HIV between 2005-2012.
