The objective of this work was to describe the dynamics of development and survival of the free-living stages of cattle gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) in fecal matter (FM) and pasture during the dry season in the Lerma Valley, Salta province, northwestern Argentina (NWA) to contribute to GIN management. The climate in the region is characterized by a rainy summer followed by a dry season from middle autumn to early spring. Fecal matter from calves naturally infected with GIN was deposited on three experimental field plots in April, July and October 2019, corresponding to the beginning, middle and end of the dry season, respectively.

Abnormal endothelin-1 (ET-1) activity is involved in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases such as essential and pulmonary arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease, and cerebrovascular disease, blockade of ET receptors having shown efficacy in clinical assays and experimental models of hypertension. Augmented Ca influx and changes in Ca sensitization associated with arterial vasoconstriction underlie increased systemic vascular resistance in hypertension. Since peripheral resistance arteries play a key role in blood pressure regulation, we aimed to determine here the specific Ca signaling mechanisms linked to the ET receptor-mediated vasoconstriction in resistance arteries and their selective regulation by protein kinase C (PKC), Rho kinase (RhoK), the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK).

This work reports on the fabrication of a novel two-layer material composed of a porous tantalum core and a dense Ti6Al4V (Ti64) shell by powder metallurgy. The porous core was obtained by mixing Ta particles and salt space-holders to create large pores, the green compact was obtained by pressing. The sintering behavior of the two-layer sample was studied by dilatometry.

We present a novel Ti64/20Ag highly porous composite fabricated by powder metallurgy for biomedical applications and provide an insight into its microstructure and mechanical proprieties. In this work, the Ti64/20Ag highly porous composites were successfully fabricated by the space holder technique and consolidated by liquid phase sintering, at lower temperatures than the ones used for Ti64 materials. The sintering densification was evaluated by dilatometry tests and the microstructural characterization and porosity features were determined by scanning electron microscopy and computed microtomography.

Free-ranging vicuñas (Vicugna vicugna) are handled in some areas of the Andean high plateau region following an ancestral practice known as chaku, which consists in their transient capture and shearing of their fiber for commercialization. In this study, 807 vicuñas captured during 12 chaku events that took place in 2019 in the province of Jujuy, Argentina, were examined for typical mange skin lesions. Twenty-eight of the examined vicuñas presented alopecia with erythema, exudation, hyperkeratosis, and/or bleeding scarred lesions, mostly in the chest, rear and front legs, and inguinal zone.

The effect of the oxidized functional groups on the structural, electronic, and reactivity properties of armchair graphene nanoribbons has been investigated in the framework of the density functional theory. The presence of functional groups near the edges stabilizes the oxidized graphene nanoribbons (OGNRs) more than substituting near the center. Overall, we found slight differences in the electronic properties of OGNRs concerning the pristine ones.
