In this study, we used hematopoietic specific Cre mouse models to assess the function of Arid1b in blood development.

Preoperative and Postoperative Hyperalgesia in Dental Patients on Chronic Opioid Therapy: A Pilot Study.

Objective: Opioid-induced hyperalgesia, a paradoxical increase in pain sensitivity associated with ongoing opioid use, may worsen the postoperative pain experience. This pilot study examined the effect of chronic opioid use on pain responses in patients undergoing a standardized dental surgery.

Methods: Experimental and subjective pain responses were compared prior to and immediately following planned multiple tooth extractions between patients with chronic pain on opioid therapy (≥30 mg morphine equivalents/d) and opioid-naïve patients without chronic pain matched on sex, race, age, and degree of surgical trauma.

Disruptor of telomeric silencing 1 (DOT1) was first identified in yeast (DOT1p) and is the sole methyltransferase responsible for histone three lysine 79 (H3K79) mono-, di-, and tri-methylation. Mammalian DOT1 (DOT1-like protein or DOT1L) has been implicated in many cellular processes, such as cell cycle progression, DNA damage response, and development. A notable developmental process reliant on DOT1L function is normal hematopoiesis, as DOT1L knockout leads to impairment in blood lineage formation.

How Virtual Animal Anatomy facilitated a successful transition to online instruction and supported student learning during the coronavirus pandemic.

Anatomy faculty with cadaver-based laboratory courses were presented with a significant challenge in March 2020 to create equivalent learning experiences without cadaveric access. The undergraduate domestic animal anatomy course at the Colorado State University was halfway into a 16-week semester when COVID-19 lockdown orders and the transition to remote instruction began. The new course curriculum was critically evaluated using student surveys and course outcome data.

Implementation and preliminary evaluation of a nursing PhD constellation mentorship model.

Given an 8.3% decline in nursing PhD enrollments between 2013 and 2018 and persistent nursing faculty vacancies nationwide, training the next generation of PhD-prepared nurse faculty remains a priority for the nursing profession. High quality nursing PhD mentorship is linked to improved career development and student retention, yet the traditional faculty-student dyad often does not meet all student needs due to multiple factors including faculty time constraints.

Introduction: This is a brief report of a systematic review and meta-analysis which examined the effectiveness of early childhood educational programs for preventing teenage pregnancy by synthesizing randomized control trials.

Methods: The search terms included 'children', 'early childhood intervention', and 'teen pregnancy'. Databases, bibliographies, grey literature, and policy reports were searched in February and March 2018 and included studies with interventions implemented with participants from birth to 5 years old.

Blood lead levels ≤10 micrograms/deciliter and executive functioning across childhood development: A systematic review.

At low levels, the effects of lead on specific neurocognitive processes, such as executive functioning, is not well understood. The aim of this systematic review is to synthesize the empirical literature examining the relationship between prenatal and postnatal low blood lead levels and executive function across childhood development. This review considers the unity and diversity model of executive functioning by assessing the domains of working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibition, attention, and unitary executive function separately.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a dietary supplement with numerous purported health benefits and an expanding commercial market. Commercially available CBD preparations range from tinctures, oils, and powders, to foods and beverages. Despite widespread use, information regarding bioavailability of these formulations is limited.
