Oncoplastic breast surgery (OBS) arose to decrease the deformity following breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for breast cancer. In this meta-analysis (MA), we pool BREAST-Q questionnaire data to compare quality of life (QOL) in breast cancer patients who received BCS alone or in combination with level I or II oncoplastic breast surgery (BCS + OBS). All relevant databases were searched following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and QUOROM (Quality of Reporting of Meta-Analyses) guidelines.

In selected patients, limb salvage can be achieved as an alternative to major amputation by means of a combined approach including arterial reconstruction and subsequent free flap transfer. Arterial reconstruction can be performed either by endovascular or open surgical treatment (bypass reconstruction or implantation of an arteriovenous loop) preliminary to defect reconstruction using microsurgical free flap transplantation.

Innovative, inexpensive and effective treatment methods would be of immense value. The sublesional fat grafting could be such treatment, although effectiveness and safety have only been assessed in a few randomised clinical trials.

Due to significant variations in vascular anatomy, preoperative perforator mapping (PM) is mandatory in order to ensure the presence of a sufficient perforator within the flap. In this regard, CT angiography (CTA) is currently the method of choice.

Individual patient data was located at the particular burn centers and only cumulated data were summarized annually for presentation. Retrospective statistical analysis of the entire data collection and identification of subgroups was not possible.

This article illustrates the recent developments in Plastic Surgery, which faces new challenges in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the example of a Plastic Surgery department in a maximum care clinic facility in Berlin, we show recent courses of action, that may be relevant for other hospitals and that can possibly help to handle the recent situation as well as possible further waves of infections and to create a constructive way back into Plastic Surgery routine.A view into the future also shows, that in the context of COVID-19 new tasks will challenge our discipline in clinics as well as in private practice.

On the one hand, significant improvements in intensive care management and surgical treatment result in an increased survival rate. On the other hand, the aging population might lead to an increased injury-related mortality rate.

A further refinement in the transfer of lower abdominal tissue is the superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap that does not require any incision of the rectus abdominis fascia or muscle and is superior regarding donor-site morbidity.
Objectives: We conducted a retrospective study to assess reliability and outcomes of autologous breast reconstruction using SIEA flaps.
Background: In most research projects budget, staff and IT infrastructures are limiting resources. Especially for small-scale registries and cohort studies professional IT support and commercial electronic data capture systems are too expensive. Consequently, these projects use simple local approaches (e.

The increasing number of cases each year, requires a novel curative approach that can combine oncological treatments and breast reconstruction yielding a pleasing and aesthetic breast that is a definitive and long lasting solution. Thus, the Immediate-DElayed AutoLogous (IDEAL) breast reconstruction principle was created to hold up to the standards of the needs of contemporary women.

Despite its common usage worldwide, little is known about the interaction of the lipoaspirate and dormant cancer cells. Up to date, no risk factors that increase the risk for cancer recurrence have been established.

Methods: From 2006 to 2015, comprehensive patient data of thermally injured children in Germany and Austria were collected prospectively. Retrospective analysis of age, gender, mechanism of injury, total body surface area burned, way of admission and length of stay was performed, followed by the comparative analysis between designated burn centers and other pediatric hospitals.
One of the putative pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic wounds is a disturbed homing of stem cells. In this project, the stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1)/C-X-C chemokine receptor (CXCR) 4 and SDF-1/CXCR7 pathway were focused in human adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs). ASCs were incubated with acute (AWF) or chronic wound fluid (CWF) to analyze their effects by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (SDF-1, CXCR4, CXCR7, TIMP3), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (SDF-1 in WFs and supernatant), and transwell migration assay with/without antagonization.

We present a computer-assisted protocol that uses surgical navigation supplemented by an interactive image-guided visualisation display (IGVD) to transfer virtual maxillary planning precisely. The aim of this study was to analyse its accuracy and versatility in vivo.

A retrospective cohort study in a 10-bed burn intensive care unit (BICU) was performed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to analyze the influence of multiple-drug resistance on mortality and length of BICU stay in Pa bacteremic patients.

Methods/design: This is a large, prospective, randomized, double-blind, multi-center study, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and fully approved by the designated ethics committee. The trial, which is to investigate the effects of EPO in severely burned patients, is in its recruitment phase and is being carried out in 13 German burn care centers.
Auricular cartilage is an important source of grafts for various reconstructive procedures such as aesthetic rhinoplasty. The purpose of this investigation was to compare tragal cartilage with auricular cartilage harvested from the concha and scapha, and describe its clinical viability, indications, and morbidity in rhinoplasty. A total of 150 augmentation rhinoplasties with a total of 170 grafts were included.

Impaired wound healing might be due to a disturbed keratinocyte function caused by the wound environment. Basically, chronic wound fluid (CWF) differs from acute wound fluid (AWF).

In this context, mesenchymal stem cells play a crucial role as they are attracted to the wound site and influence tissue regeneration by various mechanisms. In chronic wounds, these processes are disturbed.
