Mental fatigue is referred to as a psychophysiological or neurobiological state caused by prolonged periods of demanding cognitive activity. Many etiologies of acute liver injury (ALI) include drug-induced liver injury (DILI), viral illness, and autoimmune disease. Acute pancreatitis is an uncommon though significant etiology of ALI caused by inflammation, fluid shifts, and ischemia secondary to microthrombi formation that can progress to liver failure if left untreated. We present a case of hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis resulting in liver injury-associated acute pancreatitis (LIAAP) and a concurrent consumptive coagulopathy consistent with an ischemic hepatopathy.

This case report presents the complex analgesia management of a 52-year-old male with a significant medical history including atrial fibrillation treated with apixaban, essential trigeminal neuralgia, non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, and chronic systolic heart failure. The patient experienced a loss of control while riding a motorized bicycle, resulting in a fall and head injury with no loss of consciousness. Upon admission, he tested positive for ethanol, cannabinoids, and oxycodone.

Research examining the purported association between violent gaming and aggression remains controversial due to concerns related to methodology, unclear neurocognitive mechanisms, and the failure to adequately consider the role of individual differences in susceptibility. To help address these concerns, we used fMRI and an emotional empathy task to examine whether acute and cumulative violent gaming exposure were associated with abnormalities in emotional empathy as a function of trait-empathy. Emotional empathy was targeted given its involvement in regulating not only aggression, but also other important social functions such as compassion and prosocial behaviour.

In neuroimaging studies, combining data collected from multiple study sites or scanners is becoming common to increase the reproducibility of scientific discoveries. At the same time, unwanted variations arise by using different scanners (inter-scanner biases), which need to be corrected before downstream analyses to facilitate replicable research and prevent spurious findings. While statistical harmonization methods such as ComBat have become popular in mitigating inter-scanner biases in neuroimaging, recent methodological advances have shown that harmonizing heterogeneous covariances results in higher data quality.

Ecological risk assessments for potential pesticide impacts on species listed as threatened or endangered must ensure that decisions to grant registration or establish water quality standards will not jeopardize species or their critical habitats. Pesticides are designed to affect pest species via physiological pathways that may be shared by some nontarget species for which toxicity data are usually unavailable, creating a need for robust methods to estimate acute and chronic toxicity with minimal data. Amphibians worldwide are threatened by habitat loss, some of which is driven by a changing climate, as well as exposure to pesticides, among other causes. The timing and duration of the larval development phase vary between species, thereby influencing the relative impacts of stochastic hydroregime conditions as well as potential aquatic pesticide exposure. We describe the stages of breeding through metamorphosis for eight amphibian species, based on optimal hydroregime conditions, and use a model of pesticide fate and exposure representative of central Florida citrus groves to simulate hydrodynamics based on observed weather data over a 54-year period.
