A Case Report of CHEK2 and MUTYH Germline Mutations Associated With Cholangiocarcinoma in a Young Patient.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a major cause of primary liver carcinoma and has been associated with the penetrance of several germline mutations. We present a 31-year-old female evaluated for left upper quadrant pain and abnormal liver function tests. Ultrasound revealed a nodule in the liver, and biopsy showed intrahepatic adenocarcinoma.

Epigenetic control of somatostatin and cortistatin expression by β amyloid peptide.

β Amyloid, present in senile plaques, has been related largely to neuronal loss in the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease. However, how neurons respond to β amyloid insults is still poorly understood. Here we show that β amyloid increases somatostatin and cortistatin gene expression mainly through an increase in histone 3 lysine 4 methylation (H3K4me3), a modification associated with transcriptional activation.

Ultrastructural and cytochemical changes in the liver of primary biliary cirrhosis patients.

The aim of this paper is to establish whether there are cytochemical or ultrastructural alterations in the hepatocytes of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) at stages I and II compared with the biopsies from individuals with normal liver. Cytochemical technique with ATP as substrate, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and freeze fracture were used for the studies. In the normal liver biopsies the ultrastructural cytochemical localization of the enzymatic activity was clearly shown in the bile canaliculi.
