Effects of manual therapy on body posture: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Several clinical trials investigated the effectiveness of MT on body posture, but a systematic review grouping the results of these studies was not found in the literature.

Research Question: Does manual therapy (MT) cause postural changes?

Methods: Inclusion criteria were: randomized controlled trials in any population; studies in which the primary intervention was the use of any MT technique; studies that evaluated the immediate, short, medium, or long-term effects of interventions on body posture; and studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals in any year and language. In March 2022, we conducted a search in the PUBMED, Cinahl, Embase, PEDro, and Cochrane Central databases that yielded 6627 articles, of which 38 including 1597 participants were eligible; of these, 35 could be grouped into 12 meta-analyses.

Unusual Anastomosis between Branches of the Ulnar Nerve (Kaplan Type Anastomotic Variant) - Case Report.

The Kaplan anastomosis is a rare communication originally described between the superficial and dorsal branches of the ulnar nerve, distal to the ulnar tunnel, and in strict relation with the pisiform bone. It reveals, by its particular location, a formation of high clinical-surgical expressiveness. In this paper, we describe a Kaplan-type communication from a left upper limb with an unusual loop conformation between branches of the ulnar nerve in the pisiform bone.

Effectiveness of Heterologous Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccine Booster Dosing in Brazilian Healthcare Workers, 2021.

The Fundão dam failure: Iron ore tailing impact on marine benthic macrofauna.

The Fundão dam failure, the worst environmental disaster in Brazilian history, launched 50 million m of iron ore tailings mud through the Doce River, reaching the Atlantic Ocean. Generally, mine tailings increase the sediment inflow, leading to mud burial of epibenthic macrofauna, and the raise of metal(oid)s concentration causing macrofauna long-term changes. After almost four years, tailings mud was still spreading on the Doce River Shelf, while impacts on marine macrofauna were still unknown.

Actionable Mutation Profile of Sun-Protected Melanomas in South America.

Melanomas that arise in sun-protected sites, including acral and oral mucosal melanomas, are likely under the control of unique, specific mechanisms that lead to mutagenesis through various pathways. In this study, we examined somatic mutations in tumors by targeted sequencing using a custom Ion Ampliseq Panel, comprising hotspots of 14 genes that are frequently mutated in solid tumors. Tumor DNA was extracted from 9 formalin fixation, paraffin-embedded sun-protected melanomas (4 primary oral mucosal melanomas and 5 acral lentiginous melanomas), and we identified mutations in the NRAS , PIK3CA , EGFR , HRAS , ERBB2 , and ROS1 genes.

Photochemical α-Aminonitrile Synthesis Using Zn-Phthalocyanines as Near-Infrared Photocatalysts.

While photochemical transformations with sunlight almost exclusively utilize the UV-vis part of the solar spectrum, the majority of the photons emitted by the sun have frequencies in the near-infrared region. Phthalocyanines show high structural similarity to the naturally occurring light-harvesting porphyrins, chlorins, and mainly bacteriochlorins and are also known for being efficient and affordable near-infrared light absorbers as well as triplet sensitizers for the production of singlet oxygen. Although having been neglected for a long time in synthetic organic chemistry due to their low solubility and high tendency toward aggregation, their unique photophysical properties and chemical robustness make phthalocyanines attractive photocatalysts for the application in near-infrared-light-driven synthesis strategies.

COVID-19: The question of genetic diversity and therapeutic intervention approaches.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is the largest pandemic in modern history with very high infection rates and considerable mortality. Direct Synthesis of α-Sulfenylated Ketones under Electrochemical Conditions.

We investigated the electrochemical sulfenylation reaction in both batch and continuous flow regimes, involving thiophenols/thiols and enol-acetates to yield α-sulfenylated ketones, without using additional oxidants or catalysts. Studies with different electrolytes were also performed, revealing that quaternary ammonium salts are the best mediators for this reaction. Notably, during the study of the reaction scope, a Boc-cysteine proved to be extremely tolerant to our protocol, thus increasing its relevance.

Tubular and glomerular biomarkers of renal tissue function in the urine of fetuses with posterior urethral valves.

Introduction: Posterior urethral valve (PUV) is a congenital malformation characterized by a membranous structure located in the prostatic portion of the male posterior urethra that obstructs the urinary flow. Efforts have been made to determine the degree of impairment of fetal kidney function in this condition.

Objective: This study aimed to measure the levels of urinary biomarkers of glomerular and tubular functions in fetuses with PUV and to compare with the levels of the same molecules in healthy male premature newborns.

Effectiveness of two coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines (viral vector and inactivated viral vaccine) against severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in a cohort of healthcare workers.

We have investigated circulating levels of midregional-pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM), midregional-pro-atrial-natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP), copeptin (surrogate for vasopressin) and suppression-of-tumorigenicity-2 (ST2), all known to correlate with various aspects of cardiovascular function, in a SCLC cohort (N = 252) from a randomized, controlled trial (RASTEN).

Detection of adenovirus, rotavirus, and hepatitis E virus in meat cuts marketed in Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of adenovirus (AdV), rotavirus (RV), and hepatitis E virus (HEV) in beef, pork, and chicken meat cuts in retail trade in the city of Uruguaiana, RS, Brazil. A total of 131 meat products were collected (beef,  = 55; chicken,  = 47; pork,  = 29) from 18 commercial establishments (supermarkets,  = 7; butchers,  = 7; markets/grocery stores, n = 4). All samples were evaluated for AdV, RV, and HEV.

Early obesity is a serious health problem and nutritional therapeutic strategies during young age may improve health outcomes throughout life. Cinnamaldehyde, the major component of cinnamon, exhibits several beneficial metabolic effects. Here we tested the impact of cinnamaldehyde treatment during adolescence in a rat model of obesity programmed by early overnutrition, addressing white (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT).

Multivariate assessment for predicting antioxidant activity from clove and pomegranate extracts by MCR-ALS and PLS models combined to IR spectroscopy.

This study evaluated the feasibility of infrared (MIR/NIR) spectroscopy coupled to chemometrics as an alternative method for determining the antioxidant activity (AA%) of pomegranate (Punica granatum) and clove (Syzygium aromaticum) alcoholic extracts versus the conventional DPPH method. Multivariate curve resolution with alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) and Partial least squares (PLS) regression were efficient to predict the AA%, thus providing good accuracy and low residuals compared to the standard method. The MCR-ALS combined with NIR data stood out among the other models with R ≥ 0.

Investigation of the Familial Risk of Rheumatic Heart Disease with Systematic Echocardiographic Screening: Data from the PROVAR+ Family Study.

We aimed to use echocardiographic (echo) screening to evaluate the risk of Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) among the relatives of patients with advanced RHD, who were enrolled in the University Hospital's outpatient clinics from February 2020 to September 2021. Consenting first-degree relatives were invited for echo screening using handheld devices (GE VSCAN) by non-physicians, with remote interpretation. Matched controls (spouses, neighbors) living in the same household were enrolled in a 1:5 fashion.

Effectiveness of Whole-Body Vibration Combined with Multicomponent Training on the Risk of Falls and Quality of Life in Elderly Women with Osteoporosis: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.
