Achilles tendinitis as the presentation form of Löfgren's syndrome.

Löfgren's syndrome is characterised by bilateral hilar adenopathy arthritis and erythema nodosum. Achilles tendinitis as the presentation form of Löfgren's syndrome is very unusual. Herein we present a case of bilateral achilles tendinitis as the presentation form of Löfgren's syndrome.

Abnormal fatty acid pattern in rheumatoid arthritis. A rationale for treatment with marine and botanical lipids.

Objective: To assess the fatty acid pattern in plasma and synovial fluid (SF) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to determine clinical factors related to possible abnormalities.

Methods: Thirty-nine patients with RA were included. SF samples were obtained from 9 patients.

The AA. present a rarely encountered case combining a left recurrent palsy due to an sclerosis and hyperostosis of the first costoesternal joint, which improved after an antiinflammatory treatment.

Systemic lupus erythematosus, berry aneurysm and subarachnoid haemorrhage.

A 57-year-old woman with SLE and subarachnoid haemorrhage is described. The aetiology of the haemorrhage was a saccular aneurysm. The literature is reviewed.

Fish oil supplementation does not impair the gut immune response to Trichinella spiralis infection in rats.

Background: Fish oil has been recommended as a source of omega-3 fatty acids for preterm infants and for therapy of some inflammatory diseases.

Methods: Because fish oil supplementation could downregulate the host's immune response, we studied the gut inflammatory response to an enteric infection in 72 rats assigned to three dietary groups with differing fatty acid profile: 1) fish oil, rich in eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid; 2) olive oil, containing 71% monounsaturated fat; and 3) rat chow, containing 57% saturated fat. One half (n = 36) of the rats were infected with Trichinella spiralis larvae; the other half served as controls.

[The SAPHO syndrome: a study of 16 cases].

The SAPHO syndrome is characterized by synovitis, acne, palmo-plantar pustulosis, hyperostosis and osteitis. SAPHO syndrome has been occasionally described in Spain. We present our experience of 16 cases with the SAPHO syndrome diagnosed between 1984-1995.

Automatic capture verification by charge-neutral sensing.

Automatic capture verification can prolong pulse generator longevity and increase patient safety. However, the detection of evoked response following pacing is complicated due to afterpotentials caused by polarization of electrodes. This study describes a new capture verification scheme, which neutralizes the charges between the pacing electrodes.
