- This study examines the profile of individuals seeking post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV after non-occupational exposure at the Yaounde Central Hospital in Cameroon over a 10-year period.
- Out of 628 consultations, nearly half were due to non-occupational exposure, with a significant majority (78%) being females and many coming from the adolescent (15-19 years) and young adult (20-24 years) age groups.
- A large portion of the patients were students (40%) and non-healthcare workers (88%), with an average consultation time of 19 hours after exposure, while the HIV status of the source was unknown for 64% of cases.
