Synthesis of pyrazolylvinyl ketones from furan derivatives.

A new protocol for the synthesis of pyrazol-5-ylvinyl ketones, e.g. pyrazole-chalcones, employing furfuryl ketones as a triketone equivalent, has been developed.

Bifunctional primary amine-thioureas in asymmetric organocatalysis.

Research disclosed since the demonstration of the first examples of primary amine-thiourea organocatalysis in 2006 has shown that primary amine-based thioureas can successfully catalyze a diverse variety of highly enantioselective transformations providing a wide range of versatile organic compounds. Recent remarkable progress with these chiral catalysts is summarized in this review.

From biomass to medicines. A simple synthesis of indolo[3,2-c]quinolines, antimalarial alkaloid isocryptolepine, and its derivatives.

Indolo[3,2-c]quinolines are pharmacologically attractive class of heterocyclic compounds. The method of their synthesis, based on transformation of furfural, which is a large-scale product of treatment of biomass including agricultural and forestry wastes, has been developed. This method was utilized for the total synthesis of antimalarial alkaloid isocryptolepine and its derivatives.
