Introducción. El parto prematuro es un problema médico, social y económico importante, causa gran mortalidad y morbilidad neonatal, tiene un impacto importante en el sistema de salud y afecta la calidad de vida de las familias. El peso de los recién nacidos de madres con enfermedad periodontal es significativamente menor en comparación con los de madres no afectadas por esta enfermedad bucal.

[Effects of D-tagatose, Stevia and Sucrose on pH and oral bacterial activity in dentistry students. A randomized controlled trial].

Background: stevia and D-tagatose have shown a reduction in total calorie and carbohydrate intake as a substitute for sucrose, demonstrating a stabilizing effect on pH and bacterial proliferation. Objective: to evaluate the effect of D-tagatose, stevia and sucrose on salivary pH and bacterial activity in odontology students. Methodology: a controlled study of parallel and randomized groups with a single blind, whose sample considered three groups subjected to a mouthwash of D-tagatose (n = 10), stevia (n = 10) and sucrose (n = 10).

Relationship between the gingival biotype and the results of root covering surgical procedures: A systematic review.

Background: Tissue biotypes are related to the results of periodontal therapy, conventional prosthodontics, implant therapy and root covering procedures. We conducted a systematic review (SR) of the literature about the relationship between the gingival biotype and the results of root covering surgical procedures.

Material And Methods: A PICO question was defined.

[72-month evaluation of an oral health prevention strategy in schoolchildren].

Objective: Given the high prevalence of caries and periodontal disease globally, and its cumulative process from an early age, effective strategies are required to influence healthy habits that are formed in a sustainable manner, taking advantage of common spaces such as school. The objective was to evaluate for 72 months an oral health prevention strategy in schoolchildren.

Methods: This quasi-experimental study considered an initial sample of 350 students with similar cultural and socioeconomic conditions, which was later reduced to 220, after the 72 months.

Knowledge about emergency dental trauma management among school teachers in Colombia: A baseline study to develop an education strategy.

Background/aim: Dental trauma in school populations has a high frequency and school teachers are often close to the place where such injuries occur. However, many studies have confirmed the lack of knowledge as to how to act in these cases. The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge in regard to dental trauma of school teachers in Colombia.

[The relationship between the oral health and socioeconomic characteristics of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing haemodialysis treatment or kidney transplant].

Objective: Characterising the oral health of patients undergoing different types of dialysis or kidney transplant.

Materials And Methods: This was a descriptive study which involved multivariate analysis of information taken from an initial database regarding 336 patients; 49 % were receiving haemodialysis, 34 % peritoneal dialysis, 7 % pre-dialysis and 10 % kidney transplant. Illustrative variables were age, gender, marital status, occupation, education, oral hygiene and gingival indexes, flossing, decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index, renal disease aetiology and type of dialysis being received.
