Background: The clinical value of probiotics in patients undergoing abdominal surgery, particularly colorectal surgery, remains uncertain despite their well-documented health benefits. This pilot randomized controlled trial aimed to assess the effects of perioperative and postoperative oral administration of two probiotics, Clostridium butyricum CBM588 and Bifidobacterium longum ES1, on immune function, systemic inflammatory response, postoperative infections, and recovery after colorectal surgery.
Methods: Fifteen adult patients underwent colorectal resection, with two groups receiving probiotics and one acting as a control.
The robotic liver surgery is gaining momentum and several centers worldwide reported their promising results in terms of shorter recovery, less post-operative pain when compared to the open counterpart. Despite the benefits in terms of better ergonomic, enhanced visualization and microsuturing capabilities in comparison to the laparoscopic surgery, this approach is still confined to high selected centers and the reproducibility of the results published are still questioned. Herein, we report our surgical technique for a robotic-assisted left hepatectomy in a step-by-step fashion.

In this article we highlight the technical considerations specific to robotic-assisted laparoscopic liver resections for the da Vinci robotic Xi Surgical System.

The application of robotic surgery in this setting is scarcely reported. The aim of this study is to analyze the safety and feasibility of the robotic approach to pancreatic pseudocyst drainage.
