Evaluating tissue microstructure and membrane integrity in the living human brain through diffusion-water exchange imaging is challenging due to requirements for a high signal-to-noise ratio and short diffusion times dictated by relatively fast exchange processes. The goal of this work was to demonstrate the feasibility of imaging of tissue micro-geometries and water exchange within the brain gray matter using the state-of-the-art Connectome 2.0 scanner equipped with an ultra-high-performance gradient system (maximum gradient strength=500 mT/m, maximum slew rate=600 T/m/s).

In the Greenlandic Inuit population, 4% are homozygous carriers of a genetic nonsense TBC1D4 p.Arg684Ter variant leading to loss of the muscle-specific isoform of TBC1D4 and an approximately tenfold increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Coevolution between predator and prey plays a central role in shaping the pelagic realm and may have significant implications for marine ecosystems and nutrient cycling dynamics. The siliceous diatom frustule is often assumed to have coevolved with the silica-lined teeth of copepods, but empirical evidence of how this relationship drives natural selection and evolution is still lacking. Here, we show that feeding on diatoms causes significant wear and tear on copepod teeth and that this leads to copepods becoming selective feeders.

Primarily undergraduate institutions (PUI) often struggle to provide authentic research opportunities that culminate in peer-reviewed publications due to "recipe-driven" lab courses and the comprehensive body of work necessary for traditional scientific publication. However, the advent of short-form, single-figure "micropublications" has created novel opportunities for early-career scientists to make and publish authentic scientific contributions on a scale and in a timespan compatible with their training periods. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore the benefits accrued by eight undergraduate and master's students who participated in authentic, small-scale research projects and disseminated their work as coauthors of peer-reviewed micropublications at a PUI.

Background: Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide (PACAP) is a neuropeptide pivotal in migraine pathophysiology and is considered a promising new migraine drug target. Although intravenous PACAP triggers migraine attacks and a recent phase II trial with a PACAP-inhibiting antibody showed efficacy in migraine prevention, targeting the PACAP receptor PAC1 alone has been unsuccessful. Recent evidence suggests that changes in carbon-degrading extracellular enzyme activities (C-EEAs) can help explain soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics under nitrogen (N) addition. However, the factors controlling C-EEAs remain unclear, impeding the inclusion of microbial mechanisms in global C cycle models. Using meta-analysis, we show that the responses of C-EEAs to N addition were best explained by mycorrhizal association across a wide range of environmental and experimental factors.
