Suppression of murine leukemias by L-asparaginase. Incidence of sensitivity among leukemias of various types: comparative inhibitory activities of guinea pig serum L-asparaginase and Escherichia coli L-asparaginase.

A survey of 109 recently derived leukemias of the mouse revealed that sensitivity to suppression by guinea pig serum is a common property of transplanted leukemias of certain classes. The sensitive leukemias included five that arose spontaneously in mice of strains with a low incidence of leukemia and 21 that were induced by X-radiation. Two GPS-sensitive leukemias were not more sensitive than a GPS-resistant leukemia to a range of standard chemotherapeutic agents.

Paraproteinemia and reticulum cell sarcoma in an inbred mouse strain.

Mice of the inbred SJL/J strain have a high incidence of a proliferative disease affecting several cell types, including reticulum cells and plasma cells, which is frequently accompanied by gamma(1) and gamma(2) paraproteinemia. In only some instances can seriallytransplantable lines of neoplastic cells be obtained; these are reticulum cell sarcomas. Mice with transplanted reticulum cell e arcomas do not have paraproteinemia and may develop profound hypogammaglobulinemia.

Antigens of leukemias induced by naturally occurring murine leukemia virus: their relation to the antigens of gross virus and other murine leukemia viruses.

Leukemias can be induced in W/Fu inbred rats by neonatal inoculation of normal thymus cells of C58 mice. These leukemias are not transplantable to C58 mice or to adult W/Fu rats, but they can be kept in passage in W/Fu rats aged 0 to 7 days. Adult W/Fu rats inoculated repeatedly with these isogenic leukemias produce cytotoxic and precipitating antibodies.
