This change is set against a backdrop of conflicting evidence regarding the positive and negative effects of tourniquet use.
Questions/purposes: The aims were to determine if the tourniquet has an impact on [1] Forgotten Joint Score-12 (FJS-12) at 8 weeks after surgery; [2] postoperative strength and function; [3] postoperative pain and opioid analgesic use; and [4] operative time, bleeding, and length of stay (LOS).
Photodynamic therapy is an approved treatment for primary, superficial, and small nodular basal cell carcinomas with a thickness of < 2 mm located on low-risk sites. Histologically verified basal cell carcinomas clinically assessed as suited for photodynamic therapy were included. The study aimed to investigate the agreement between clinical and histological assessments of basal cell carcinoma subtypes and thickness of tumours selected for photodynamic therapy with histopathological evaluation as a reference.

Simplification of the treatment course can be cost-effective, easier to organize, and cause less discomfort for the patients.

Patients And Methods: This was a retrospective study of prospective data from an institutional registry of 178 primary TKAs revised between 2012 and 2020.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the effect of further follow-up for children treated for developmental dysplasia of the hip, with normal clinical and radiological findings at 1-year time point. The effect was quantified by the number of hips with a pathologic deterioration up to 5 years.
Methods: Among 47,289 children born in Sør-Trøndelag county in Norway between 2003 and 2015, 265 children had developmental dysplasia of the hip.
Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP), an immunomodulatory therapy for the treatment of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD), exposes isolated white blood cells to photoactivatable 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) and UVA light to induce the apoptosis of T-cells and, hence, to modulate immune responses. However, 8-MOP-ECP kills diseased and healthy cells with no selectivity and has limited efficacy in many cases. The use of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and light (ALA-based photodynamic therapy) may be an alternative, as ex vivo investigations show that ALA-ECP kills T-cells from cGvHD patients more selectively and efficiently than those treated with 8-MOP-ECP.

Study Design And Setting: Data from 3651 patients (mean age: 83 years) from a Norwegian University Hospital were retrospectively obtained and randomly divided into two cohorts: a model cohort (n = 1825) to develop two prediction models with CCI and ASA as the main predictors, and a validation cohort (n = 1826) to assess the predictive ability of both models. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve determined the best model to predict mortality.
Aims: To compare costs related to a standardised versus conventional hospital care for older patients after fragility hip fracture and determine whether a shift in hospital care led to cost-shifts between specialists and primary health care.
Methods: We retrospectively collected and calculated volumes of care and accompanying costs from fracture time until 12 months after hospital discharge for 979 patients. All patients aged ≥ 65 years had fragility hip fractures.

However, discrepant results regarding the increased sensitivity of sonication have been reported in several studies. Design: This study is an exploratory study based on data from a 3-mo randomized controlled trial involving 54 total hip arthroplasty patients performing maximal strength training or conventional rehabilitation. At 3, 6, and 12 mos postoperatively, postural sway was evaluated in two gait tests; ie, one test before and one test after conducting a battery of physical performance tests.
Introduction: Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) includes patients with symptoms of peritrochanteric pain, gluteus medius/minimus tendinopathy, and external snapping hip. Non-operative treatment includes iliotibial band (ITB) stretching, gluteal exercises and cortisone injections. When surgery is indicated due to the failure of non-operative strategies, open Z-plasty at the level of the greater trochanter has been the traditional procedure.

Methods: 60 patients scheduled for primary THA were allocated to the direct lateral (DLA), posterior (PA) or anterior (AA) approach.
It would be useful if it were possible for the patients to recreate their pre-operative QuickDASH scores in audits where this score had not been recorded before surgery. We assessed the accuracy of remembered pre-operative QuickDASH scores among 229 consecutive patients and the value of a previously developed algorithm for correcting these scores. Real pre-operative scores and remembered pre-operative scores were compared after a mean of 21 months.
