3D integration of III-V semiconductors with Si CMOS is highly attractive since it allows combining new functions such as photonic and analog devices with digital signal processing circuitry. Thus far, most 3D integration approaches have used epitaxial growth on Si, layer transfer by wafer bonding, or die-to-die packaging. Here we present low-temperature integration of InAs on W using SiN template assisted selective area metal-organic vapor-phase epitaxy (MOVPE).

Low-Temperature Characteristics of Nanowire Network Demultiplexer for Qubit Biasing.

In current quantum computers, most qubit control electronics are connected to the qubit chip inside the cryostat by cables at room temperature. This poses a challenge when scaling the quantum chip to an increasing number of qubits. We present a lateral nanowire network 1-to-4 demultiplexer design fabricated by selective area grown InGaAs on InP, suitable for on chip routing of DC current for qubit biasing.

Proteomics and multivariate modelling reveal sex-specific alterations in distinct regions of human carotid atheroma.

Background: Atherosclerotic lesions are comprised of distinct regions with different proteomic profiles. Men and women develop differences in lesion phenotype, with lesions from women generally being more stable and less prone to rupture. We aimed to investigate the differences in proteomic profiles between sexes, including distinct lesion regions, to identify altered proteins that contribute to these differences observed clinically.

Determination of the variability in the salivary proteome is a prerequisite for the development of saliva as a diagnostic and prognostic tool in particular physiological states. In this context, it is important that technical variability induced by sample collection and processing is kept at minimum to be able to reproducibly assess variability in states of health and disease. In the current study, the proteome profile in unstimulated and stimulated whole, parotid and sublingual saliva was investigated using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis.

Objectives: Comprehensive nationwide monitoring and evaluation of screening through registry-based review of key indicators is necessary for programme optimization, especially as new tests and strategies are introduced. We aimed to investigate and report on the use of these key indicators in the Swedish programme.

Setting And Methods: Organized population-based cervical screening targeting women aged 23-50 and 51-60 every three and five years, respectively, is regionally implemented in Sweden.

Protein profiles of nasal lavage fluid from individuals with work-related upper airway symptoms associated with moldy and damp buildings.

Upper airway irritation is common among individuals working in moldy and damp buildings. The aim of this study was to investigate effects on the protein composition of the nasal lining fluid. The prevalence of symptoms in relation to work environment was examined in 37 individuals working in two damp buildings.

Multivariate proteomic analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with peripheral neuropathic pain and healthy controls - a hypothesis-generating pilot study.

Pain medicine lacks objective biomarkers to guide diagnosis and treatment. Combining two-dimensional gel proteomics with multivariate data analysis by projection, we exploratively analyzed the cerebrospinal fluid of eleven patients with severe peripheral neuropathic pain due to trauma and/or surgery refractory to conventional treatment and eleven healthy controls. Using orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis, we identified a panel of 36 proteins highly discriminating between the two groups.

Protein alterations in women with chronic widespread pain--An explorative proteomic study of the trapezius muscle.

Chronic widespread pain (CWP) has a high prevalence in the population and is associated with prominent negative individual and societal consequences. There is no clear consensus concerning the etiology behind CWP although alterations in the central processing of nociception maintained by peripheral nociceptive input has been suggested. Here, we use proteomics to study protein changes in trapezius muscle from 18 female patients diagnosed with CWP compared to 19 healthy female subjects.

Intramuscular pain modulatory substances before and after exercise in women with chronic neck pain.

Background: In peripheral tissue, several substances influence pain and pain modulation. Exercise has been found to decrease pain and improve function for chronic pain conditions, but how and why exercise produces beneficial effects remains unclear. This study investigates whether aspects of pain and concentrations of substances with algesic, analgesic and metabolic functions differ between women with chronic neck shoulder pain (CNSP) and healthy women (CON) and whether changes are found after an exercise intervention for CNSP.

Repeated nicotine exposure during adolescence alters reward-related learning in male and female rats.

Rationale: Repeated nicotine exposure causes neuroadaptations in limbic cortico-striatal circuits involved in learning and motivation. Such alterations are relevant to addiction because they are suggested to mediate the ability of smoking-associated stimuli to control behavior and to enhance nicotine-seeking and -taking behaviors. Female smokers report higher cue reactivity relative to their male counter parts, yet little is known about putative gender-specific effects of adolescent nicotine exposure on reward-related learning.

Maternal and fetal factors which affect fetometry: use of in vitro fertilization and birth register data.

Background: Fetometry dating of gestational age is the gold standard in most developed countries but may have some inborn errors. Dating pregnancies after in vitro fertilization can be used for the evaluation of fetometric studies and for studies of variables which may affect them.

Methods: We compared the actual gestational age of 9543 singleton and 869 twin pregnancies with estimates based on second-trimester fetometry.

Identification of proteins from interstitium of trapezius muscle in women with chronic myalgia using microdialysis in combination with proteomics.

Background: Microdialysis (MD) of the trapezius muscle has been an attractive technique to investigating small molecules and metabolites in chronic musculoskeletal pain in human. Large biomolecules such as proteins also cross the dialysis membrane of the catheters. In this study we have applied in vivo MD in combination with two dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and mass spectrometry to identify proteins in the extracellular fluid of the trapezius muscle.

Relative recovery over time - an in vivo microdialysis study of human skeletal muscle.

Background: The microdialysis technique is a method for sampling endogenous molecules from the interstitial compartments of varying tissues and relies on diffusion of molecules between the tissue and a perfusate via a membrane. Such samples do not allow determination of the true interstitial concentration but only a certain percentage. This gives rise to one of the most crucial parameter that needs to be considered for a dependable microdialysis; the relative recovery.

Persistent effects of prior chronic exposure to corticosterone on reward-related learning and motivation in rodents.

Background: Repeated or prolonged exposure to stress has profound effects on a wide spectrum of behavioral and neurobiological processes and has been associated with the pathophysiology of depression. The multifaceted nature of this disorder includes despair, anhedonia, diminished motivation, and disrupted cognition, and it has been proposed that depression is also associated with reduced reward-motivated learning. We have previously reported that prior chronic corticosterone exposure to mice produces a lasting depressive-like state that can be reversed by chronic antidepressant treatment.

Vaccination against H1N1 influenza with Pandemrix(®) during pregnancy and delivery outcome: a Swedish register study.

Objective: To describe a large study on pregnancy outcome after vaccination against H1N1 during the 2009/10 pandemic.

Design: A cohort study of women vaccinated with Pandemrix(®) during pregnancy.

Setting: The Swedish Medical Birth Register was used for the analysis.

The tyrosine phosphatase STEP constrains amygdala-dependent memory formation and neuroplasticity.

STriatal-Enriched protein tyrosine Phosphatase (STEP; PTPN5) is expressed in brain regions displaying adult neuroplasticity. STEP modulates neurotransmission by dephosphorylating regulatory tyrosine residues on its substrates. In this way, STEP inactivates extracellular-signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), limiting the duration and spatial distribution of ERK signaling.

Distinctive roles for amygdalar CREB in reconsolidation and extinction of fear memory.

Cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB) plays a critical role in fear memory formation. Here we determined the role of CREB selectively within the amygdala in reconsolidation and extinction of auditory fear. Viral overexpression of the inducible cAMP early repressor (ICER) or the dominant-negative mCREB, specifically within the lateral amygdala disrupted reconsolidation of auditory fear memories.

Regulator of calmodulin signaling knockout mice display anxiety-like behavior and motivational deficits.

Regulator of calmodulin (CaM) signaling (RCS), when phosphorylated by protein kinase A (PKA) on Ser55, binds to CaM and inhibits CaM-dependent signaling. RCS expression is high in the dorsal striatum, nucleus accumbens and amygdala, suggesting that the protein is involved in limbic-striatal function. To test this hypothesis, we examined RCS knockout (KO) mice in behavioral models dependent on these brain areas.

External review and validation of the Swedish national inpatient register.

Background: The Swedish National Inpatient Register (IPR), also called the Hospital Discharge Register, is a principal source of data for numerous research projects. The IPR is part of the National Patient Register. The Swedish IPR was launched in 1964 (psychiatric diagnoses from 1973) but complete coverage did not begin until 1987.
