This study aimed to determine whether physician led, community-based educational symposium improves understanding of breast cancer care and breast reconstruction in underserved populations.
Methods: Annual educational symposiums were held between 2017 and 2019 in underserved communities in the greater Philadelphia area.
Background: A disparity exists in patients receiving panniculectomies. We evaluated this disparity and assessed if it persists once patients are integrated into the healthcare system through bariatric surgery.
Methods: All patients who received bariatric surgery (n = 2528), panniculectomies (n = 1333) and panniculectomies after bariatric surgery (n = 48) at the University of Pennsylvania between January 1, 2012 and March 1, 2017 were retrospectively identified.
Background: This study evaluates the rates of immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) among racial and insurance status subgroups, in the setting of a changing plastic surgeon workforce.
Methods: Using state level inpatient and ambulatory surgery data, we identified discharges for adult women who underwent mastectomy for breast cancer. This information was supplemented with plastic surgeon workforce data and aggregated to the health service area-level (HSA).
Background: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the American Society of Anesthesiologists classification system could be used preoperatively to identify patients at high risk for complications after abdominal contouring.
Methods: Using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database from 2007 to 2012, patients undergoing abdominal contouring procedures were identified and stratified by American Society of Anesthesiologists class. The primary outcome was any complication within 30 days.
