Signet ring lymphoma: The import of immunohistochemistry in resolving diagnostic dilemmas.

Signet ring cell lymphomas are a rare subtype of non Hodgkin lymphoma characterised by malignant lymphoid cells with cytoplasmic inclusions that displace the nucleus and imparts a “signet ring” appearance. This poses a diagnostic challenge as it can be mistaken for an adenocarcinoma or any other epithelial malignancy. A 54yr old male presented with a 6month history of generalised lymphadenopathy.

Chorioamnionitis in pregnancy: a comparative study of HIV-positive and HIV-negative parturients.

Chorioamnionitis is an important risk factor for vertical transmission of HIV/AIDS. We compared the prevalence and correlates of histologic chorioamnionitis (HCA) in HIV-positive and HIV-negative pregnant women. HIV-positive and -negative parturients were interviewed, examined and had their placentas examined histologically for chorioamnionitis.

Interplay of glia activation and oxidative stress formation in fluoride and aluminium exposure.

Background: Oxidative stress formation is pivotal in the action of environmental agents which trigger the activation of glial cells and neuroinflammation to stimulate compensatory mechanisms aimed at restoring homeostasis.

Aim: This study sets to demonstrate the interplay of fluoride (F) and aluminium (Al) in brain metabolism. Specifically, it reveals how oxidative stress impacts the activation of astrocytes (GFAP), mediates proinflammatory responses (microglia and B-cells: CD68 and CD 20 respectively) and shows the pattern of lipid peroxidation in the brain following fluoride and (or) aluminium treatment in vivo.
