Satellite-based light use efficiency (LUE) models have been widely used to estimate gross primary production in various terrestrial ecosystems such as forests and croplands, but northern peatlands have received less attention. In particular, the Hudson Bay Lowlands (HBL) which is a massive peatland-rich region in Canada has been largely ignored in previous LUE-based studies. These peatland ecosystems have accumulated large stocks of organic carbon over many millennia, and play a vital role in the global carbon cycle.
