Asthma is the most common chronic respiratory disease and a major public health problem. Although the causal relationship between air pollution and asthma remains controversial, a large number of studies have provided increasingly consistent evidence of the involvement of air pollutants in asthma onset and exacerbations. We conducted a keyword search-based literature review using PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases for studies with titles or abstracts containing predefined terms.
