B-Ring-modified and/or 5-demethylated nobiletin congeners: inhibitory activity against pro-MMP-9 production.

Three metabolites and 12 analogues of nobiletin (1) were synthesized. Whereas nobiletin derivatives 2-4 inhibited pro-MMP-9 production similarly in both PMA- and TNF-α-stimulated human lens epithelial cells, the 2'-hydroxylated analogue 5a exerted marked inhibitory effects (IC(50): 0.4 μM) on PMA-treated cells, which were 170-fold more potent than those on TNF-α-treated cells.

However, it is sometimes tough to create a complete MI block line, and the cooling effect because of the local coronary flow may prevent the creation of a successful MI block line.

Methods And Results: This study enrolled 81 AF patients in whom the creation of an MI block line was attempted in those with persistent or pacing-inducible AF after pulmonary vein isolation.

A case of ischemic duodenitis associated with superior mesenteric artery syndrome caused by an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with upper abdominal pain and bloody vomiting. An abdominal aneurysm compressed the third portion of the duodenum and the second portion of duodenum was distended with thickened walls as in superior mesenteric artery syndrome. Endoscopic examination showed an edematous mucosa with hemorrhagic erosions, shallow longitudinal ulcers, and star-shaped ulcers in the duodenum.

In this study, we examined the hypothesis that the presence of multiple inducible ATs (multiple-ATs), which allow for latent multiple reentrant circuits, might increase the potential for following AT episodes after CA.

IL-6 positively regulates Foxp3+CD8+ T cells in vivo.

Although recent studies have identified regulatory roles for Foxp3(+)CD8(+) T cells, the mechanisms that induce their development and underlie their functions in vivo have not been elucidated. Here, we show that IL-6 positively regulates the Foxp3(+)CD8(+) T-cell development and function. The Foxp3(+)CD8(+) T cells that differentiated in vitro in the presence of IL-6 suppressed autoimmune colitis and arthritis in vivo.

Background/aims: This study assessed the efficacy and toxicity of the FOLFOX4 (SWIFT1) and mFOLFOX6 (SWIFT2) regimens in Japanese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

Ultraviolet irradiation therapy, including psoralen and ultraviolet A therapy and narrow-band ultraviolet B (310-312 nm) therapy, is a widely used and highly efficient treatment modality for psoriasis. Therapy with 308-nm excimer light has been reported to be effective for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. To evaluate the efficacy of 308-nm excimer light therapy for Japanese psoriasis patients, seven patients (six men and one woman) with plaque-type psoriasis were treated with 308-nm excimer light at 7-14-day intervals.

Background: Although DNA sequence analysis is becoming a powerful tool for identifying species, it is not easy to assess whether the observed genetic disparity corresponds to reproductive isolation. Here, we compared the efficiency of biological species identification between nuclear ribosomal and chloroplast DNA sequences, focusing on an Asian endemic perennial lineage of Mitella (Asimitellaria; Saxifragaceae). We performed artificial cross experiments for 43 pairs of ten taxonomic species, and examined their F1 hybrid pollen fertility in vitro as a quantitative measure of postzygotic reproductive isolation.
