Biofilm formation or internalization into epithelial cells enable Streptococcus pyogenes to evade antibiotic eradication in patients with pharyngitis.

Streptococcus pyogenes is the bacterium most frequently isolated from patients with pharyngitis. Although various antibiotics including penicillin are effective, antibiotic treatment failure in cases of streptococcal pharyngitis have been reported. Herein, we investigated mechanisms associated with recurrent streptococcal pharyngitis.

Epidemiological characterization of Streptococcus pyogenes isolated from patients with multiple onsets of pharyngitis.

[Therapeutic effect of cefotaxime in the field of pediatrics].

Cefotaxime (CTX) was administered to 130 children with various bacterial infections of 41 to 400 mg/kg/day for 2 to 21 days. The clinical effect of CTX was very satisfactory in respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection and meningitis. The overall clinical effect was excellent in 59, good in 39, fair in 17 and failure in 8 with effective rate of 79.

Rubella epidemic in an institution: protective value of live rubella vaccine and serological behavior of vaccinated, revaccinated and naturally immune groups.

A rubella epidemic occurred in an institutional population composed of 189 susceptible, 37 naturally immune, 35 previously vaccinated and 38 serologically uncharacterized children and nursing staff. The epidemic lasted 3.5 months and showed more than 5 waves.

Production of homocytotropic antibody against acid extracts isolated from group A streptococcal cell walls in intact and adrenalectomized rats.

Intact and adrenalectomized rats of male Sprague-Dawley were injected with acid-extracted materials isolated from group A streptococcal cell walls using aluminum gel as an adjuvant. We have clearly demonstrated the production of homocytotropic antibodies against this antigens in rats. However, the homocytotropic antibody titers in adrenalectomized rats were much higher than those in intact rats.
