RAPD analysis was used to verify the varieties in an in vitro germplasm collection of lilac Syringa vulgaris L. RAPD patterns were obtained with 16 decanucleotide primers for 46 accessions (microclones and corresponding reference varieties). The RAPD patterns of a microclone and the corresponding reference variety often differed in composition; consequently, it was infeasible to verify the accessions by direct comparison of the RAPD patterns.

RAPD analysis was carried out with 22 accessions of the genus Syringa, including six species, one interspecific hybrid, and 15 cultivars. In total, 500 polymorphic fragments were detected; species-specific and cultivar-specific markers were identified. For the first time, genetic polymorphism and genome similarity coefficients were estimated and phylogenetic relationships were established for the genus Syringa.

Small (40-60 nm in diameter) and large (300-350 nm) negative vesicles were complexed with a cationic polypeptide, poly-L-lysine (PL). Laser microelectrophoresis experiments showed that in small vesicles rendered anionic with the addition of cardiolipin (CL(2-)), only the CL(2-) in the outer leaflet is involved in the complexation with PL. Calorimetric and other data demonstrate that the binding of PL to the membrane surface causes domains ("rafts") of CL(2-) to form in the outer leaflet, and it is these domains that electrostatically bind the polymer.

Proteoliposomes were prepared by making bilayer vesicles from neutral egg yolk lecithin and negatively charged alpha-chymotrypsin that had been previously stearoylated. Interaction of these proteoliposomes with a cationic polymer, poly-(N-ethyl-4-vinylpryidinium bromide) (PEVP) was examined. For comparison purposes, interaction of PEVP with egg lecithin vesicles containing an anionic phospholipid, cardiolipin, was also examined.

Concentration of PGF2 alpha were correlated to those of antiprostaglandin antibodies IgM and IgG to this mediator in donors and myocardial infarction patients. In donors correlation between PGF2 alpha concentration and IgG antibody levels is positive. In uneventful myocardial infarction relevant correlation partially recovered at the expense of IgM antibodies.

The important role played by prostaglandins in the pathogenesis of coronary disease and essential hypertension is well known. The authors have attempted to reveal a relationship between blood levels of natural autoantibodies to PGF2 alpha and PGE2 and specific features of coronary disease and essential hypertension course and complications. A total of 87 subjects were examined, 23 of these--normal controls, 25 patients with myocardial infarction, 22 with angina pectoris, and 17 with essential hypertension.
