Participation factors in a self-quantification program for family caregivers of community-dwelling older adults with long-term care in Japan.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the characteristics of participation in the self-quantification program for family caregivers (CGs) who provide long-term care to community-dwelling older adults. The family CGs, allocated based on the percentage of the nation's older population who needed care and met the inclusion criteria, who provided caregiving at least once a week for those aged 65 + and who were certified as needing care under the Japanese long-term care insurance program, were collected through online monitors. We compared the characteristics of the program participants and nonparticipants using logistic regression.

Methods And Results: This randomized controlled study included patients who underwent open-heart surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass. Of these patients, 31 received regular cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and 39 received AT in addition to regular CR (AT group).

Safety of Antithrombotic Therapy within 24 Hours after Recombinant Tissue-Plasminogen Activator Treatment for Large-Artery Atherosclerosis Stroke: Insights from Emergent PTA/CAS Cases.

Background: Antithrombotic therapy (AT) should generally be avoided within 24 hours after recombinant tissue-plasminogen activator (rt-PA) treatment but should be considered in patients with large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA) who undergo concomitant emergent endovascular treatment (EVT). The aim of the present study was to assess the safety of AT within 24 hours after rt-PA treatment in patients with hyperacute ischemic stroke due to LAA who received concomitant EVT.

Methods: From January 2013 through July 2019, consecutive patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease due to LAA who were admitted within 6 hours from symptom onset were recruited.

Extremely Longitudinally Extensive Transverse Myelitis in a Patient With Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-Associated Disease.

Longitudinally extensive myelitis with 15 or more vertebrae in length is extremely rare, with limited evidence regarding clinical features and therapeutic response. We report a case of a 29-year-old male patient with extremely longitudinally extensive myelitis ultimately diagnosed as myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-associated disease (MOGAD). The patient presented with an acute onset of meningismus, limb weakness, sensory disturbance below the C5 level, ataxia, and urinary retention.

Objectives: To address the paucity of HIV-related lymphoma (HRL)-specific prognostic scores for the Japanese population by analyzing domestic cases of HRL and constructing a predictive model.

Design: A single-center retrospective study coupled with a review of case reports of HRL.

Methods: We reviewed all patients with HRL treated at our hospital between 2007 and 2023 and conducted a comprehensive search for case reports of HRL from Japan using public databases.

Background: Sacubitril/valsartan, being both a neprilysin inhibitor and angiotensin receptor blocker, exhibits a renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitory effect. However, no study has investigated the administration of sacubitril/valsartan in patients early after surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass.

Methods And Results: This was a prospective observational study of 63 patients who underwent open heart surgery and were treated with sacubitril/valsartan.

Resection of a retroperitoneal lumbar vein aneurysm: A case report.

We present a rare case involving a 54-year-old man with a history of pancreatitis who developed a retroperitoneal lumbar vein aneurysm that was initially misidentified as a pancreatic pseudocyst. Subsequent imaging revealed an enlarged mass and retroperitoneal perforation. Despite initial hesitation, the patient eventually underwent radical surgery that enabled the successful removal of the mass, which was near the inferior vena cava.

Study on the onset mechanism of bio-blister degradation of polyolefin by diatom attachment in seawater.

It is essential to develop a mechanism for lowering the molecular weight of polyolefins to achieve biodegradation in seawater. In this study, a polypropylene/polylactic acid blend sample was first subjected to photodegradation pretreatment, and it was confirmed that in pure water, the acid generated promotes the polypropylene degradation (autoxidation), while in alkaline seawater, the promotion was inhibited by a neutralization reaction. In the autoxidation of polyolefins in alkaline seawater, aqueous Cl was also the inhibitor.
