Causative Microorganisms in Community-Acquired Urinary Tract Infections and Risk Factors for the Development of Infection with Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase-Producing Species.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the microorganisms grown in the urine cultures of patients followed up with the diagnosis of community-acquired urinary tract infection (CA-UTI), their antibiotic susceptibility, and the risk factors that cause extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) production in microorganisms.

Materials And Methods: Patients diagnosed with CA-UTI in the Yıldırım Beyazıt University City Hospital Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Clinic between February 2019 and February 2020 were prospectively analyzed. The microorganisms grown in the urine cultures and antibiotic susceptibility rates were examined.

Investigation of polypharmacy, antimicrobial-related potential drug-drug interactions in patients with hematological malignancies.

Purpose: Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) occur when one drug interferes with the pharmacological activity of another and can lead to increased side effects. The purpose of this study was to examine potential interactions between antimicrobials and other drugs in patients with hematological malignancies (HMs).

Method: The medications used by 233 patients with HMs before and during hospitalization in Ankara City Hospital Hematology Clinic services between January 2021 and July 2021 were examined.

Incidence and risk factors for COVID-19 associated candidemia (CAC) in ICU patients.

Background: Critically ill COVID-19 patients have a high risk for the development of candidemia due to being exposed to both well-defined classical risk factors and COVID-19-specific risk factors in ICU.

Objectives: In this study, we investigated the incidence of candidemia in critically COVID-19 patients, and the independent risk factors for candidemia.

Patients/methods: COVID-19 patients hospitalised in ICU during 1-year period (August 2020 to August 2021) were included.

Comparison of TruView EVO2 with Miller laryngoscope in paediatric patients.

Miller laryngoscope was traditionally used for paediatric intubation. The TruView EVO2 system is a recently introduced device with a unique blade that provides a wide and magnified laryngeal view.

The protective effects of intratympanic dexamethasone and vitamin E on cisplatin-induced ototoxicity are demonstrated in rats.

Cisplatin ototoxicity is a major dose-limiting factor in the treatment of several neoplasms. Dexamethasone and vitamin E are two slow-acting free radical cleaners, and they have been shown to ameliorate nephrotoxicity and endothelial cell damage in animals receiving cisplatin. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of vitamin E and dexamethasone as an otoprotectant intratympanically.

Rosai-Dorfman disease: sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy.

A 25-year-old man presented with a 3 month history of a painless mass on the right side of his neck. Physical examination revealed a smooth surfaced, bilobed, 4×3 cm, semimobile mass at the right and 3×2 cm at the left jugulodigastric region. Endoscopic examination of the patient showed a granular tumour in both nasal cavities.
