Can household energy efficiency dampen crude oil price volatility in the United States?

Even though the effect of oil price shocks on macroeconomics has been extensively investigated, the literature on how efficiency in household energy use affect crude oil price volatility is yet explored. This study unveils whether household energy efficiency lower crude oil price volatility asymmetrically in the United States using the historical and forecast dataset that spans from 1970:Q1-2040:Q1. Applying the multivariate case of Quantile-on-Quantile Regression, the empirical results show that household energy efficiency dampens crude oil price volatility with a stronger connection in quantiles before the median quantiles of crude oil price volatility.

Time-quantile impact of foreign direct investment, financial development, and financial globalisation on green growth in BRICS economies.

Implementing policy combinations that neither negatively impact economic performance nor create the least amount of harm is the most crucial factor to consider in policy practices that promote environmental quality. In this regard, green growth, which harmonises both environmental and economic performance, gains importance. Based on this, this study analyses the effects of foreign direct investments, financial development, and financial globalisation on green growth for BRICS countries for the period 1990-2021.

Assessing the environmental impact of fertilizer consumption in Turkey.

The technique of fertilizer consumption increases yields from agriculture, but because it involves chemicals, there are disagreements regarding how it affects the environment. Based on this, the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of fertilizer consumption on load capacity factor in Turkey through novel technique (multivariate quantile-on-quantile regression) for the period 1970-2021. In this regard, factors that have significant effects on the environment, such as trade globalization, renewable energy usage, natural resources, are also included in the empirical model to avoid omitted variable bias.

Biopsy-proven BK virus nephropathy in renal transplant recipients: A multi-central study from Turkey (BK-TURK STUDY).

Global warming has progressed into a pressing global concern, primarily driven by human activities. To address this issue, it is vital to identify the key drivers of ecological quality and develop effective policies in response. Consequently, this study seeks to empirically examine the causal effect of financial globalization, economic growth, economic policy uncertainty, and oil consumption on the load capacity factor (LF) in Brazil.

Evaluating the impact of technological innovation and energy efficiency on load capacity factor: empirical analysis of India.

The determinants of environmental degradation have been investigated many times by utilizing carbon dioxide emissions and/or ecological footprint. However, these traditional environmental degradation indicators do not consider the supply side of environmental problems. Therefore, this study focuses on the dynamic influence of financial development, energy efficiency, economic growth, and technological innovation on environmental degradation in India through the load capacity factor, including both the supply and demand sides of environmental problems.

Impact of green technological innovations on environmental quality for Turkey: evidence from the novel dynamic ARDL simulation model.

The contribution of this research is to provide empirical evidence that investing in green technology innovation (GTI) can reduce the ecological footprint in Turkey, which can lead to sustainable economic growth and environmental quality. The research also highlights the importance of controlling energy consumption, GDP, trade openness, and urbanization, as these variables have a positive or negative effect on ecological footprint. The findings of this research can be useful for the Turkish government, policymakers, and environmentalists to promote the implementation of GTI and eco-friendly resources, which can reduce the impact of climate change and contribute to economic prosperity.

Reconsidering the environmental Kuznets curve, pollution haven, and pollution halo hypotheses with carbon efficiency in China: A dynamic ARDL simulations approach.

Given a new perspective on the environmental hypothesis, this paper systematically investigates the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC), pollution haven, and pollution halo hypotheses using carbon efficiency as the dependent variable. Applying the dynamic autoregressive distributed lag simulations based on the annual time series data over the period 1990-2019, the study found that real GDP per capita has negative effects on China's environmental quality both in the short and long run, whereas the square of real GDP per capita has positive impacts. This validates the EKC hypothesis for China.

This study is an attempt to provide a new perspective on the nature of this problem. Both the traditional and time-varying nonparametric quantile causality techniques are employed in investigating the effects of climate policy uncertainty on sustainable investment in the United States.

Is reducing fossil fuel intensity important for environmental management and ensuring ecological efficiency in China?

Since China is a country with high environmental pollution, researchers have intensively studied China's environmental problems using various environmental indicators such as carbon emissions and ecological footprint. Unlike previous literature, this study analyzes the effects of economic growth, globalization, foreign direct investment, and fossil energy intensity on ecological efficiency in China. As an innovation to the literature, the study examines the Chinese ecosystem simultaneously with its economic and environmental aspects by focusing on ecological efficiency.

A consideration of the environmental externality of Turkey's integration into global value chains: evidence from dynamic ARDL simulation model.

The phenomenal growth experienced by Turkey at the turn of the millennium is attributed in part to increased participation in global value chains. While participation in global value chains has been beneficial to the Turkish economy, it also poses unique environmental challenges. The Inhibitory Effect of Polysaccharides on Cultured Pterygium Fibroblasts.

Objectives: Pterygium recurrence after removal surgery is an important problem. Polysaccharides obtained from Capparis species have been shown to possess various biological properties, including anti-tumor activity. This study was an investigation of the effect of polysaccharides on cultured pterygium fibroblasts and a comparison with the effects of mitomycin C (MMC).

Impact of COVID-19 on stock market efficiency: Evidence from developed countries.

This study investigates the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on stock market efficiency for six hard-hit developed countries, namely, the United States (US), Spain, the United Kingdom (UK), Italy, France, and Germany. Applying the wild bootstrap automatic variance ratio test on daily stock market data from July 29, 2019 to January 25, 2021, it is found that all stock markets used in this study deviate from market efficiency during some periods of the pandemic. Deviations from market efficiency are seen more in the stock markets of the US and UK during the COVID-19 outbreak than in other stock markets.

Predicting the outcome of COVID-19 infection in kidney transplant recipients.

Background: We aimed to present the demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, and outcomes of our multicenter cohort of adult KTx recipients with COVID-19.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter, retrospective study using data of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 collected from 34 centers in Turkey. Investigation of the effects of bisphenol-A exposure on lymphoid system in prenatal stage.

Bisphenol-A (BPA) used in the production of plastic materials is a temperature-soluble agent. It also has a steroid hormone-like activity; therefore, it poses a danger to human health. In our study, we aimed to investigate the effects of BPA on lymph node and spleen in male rats exposed to this agent during prenatal stage.

Inhibitory Effect of Valsartan on Pterygium Fibroblasts.

Purpose: Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) were shown to have antifibrotic properties in ocular and systemic diseases. In this study, our aim was to investigate the effect of an angiotensin receptor blocker, valsartan, on pterygium fibroblasts and compare this effect with that of mitomycin C (MMC).

Methods: Pterygium tissue samples were obtained from 3 patients during surgical excision.

The Prevalence of Fabry Disease in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease in Turkey: The TURKFAB Study.

Background/aims: Fabry disease is a treatable cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) characterized by a genetic deficiency of α-galactosidase A. European Renal Best Practice (ERBP) recommends screening for Fabry disease in CKD patients. However, this is based on expert opinion and there are no reports of the prevalence of Fabry disease in stage 1-5 CKD.

The role of midkine in the inflammatory process and its correlation with other inflammatory markers in renal transplant recipients.

Background: Midkine (MK), which is expressed in the proximal tubular epithelial cells of the kidney, is thought to have a role in the pathophysiology of inflammation-related renal diseases. Both immunological and nonimmunological mechanisms may affect renal functions negatively during the early and late post-transplantation periods. We aimed in our study to evaluate the relationship of MK with clinical findings and inflammatory markers, including high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) in the pretransplant and post-transplant period.

Skin disorders in peritoneal dialysis patients: An underdiagnosed subject.

Aim: To examine all skin changes in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients followed up in our unit.

Methods: Patients on PD program for at least three months without any known chronic skin disease were included in the study. Patients with already diagnosed skin disease, those who have systemic diseases that may cause skin lesions, patients with malignancies and those who did not give informed consent were excluded from the study.

The correlation of inflammatory markers and plasma vaspin levels in patients with diabetic nephropathy.

Vaspin, a recently identified adipokine, is a visceral adipose tissue-derived serine protease inhibitor that may have insulin sensitizing effect on adipose tissue.
