Background: Choices of antibacterial for infections in pregnancy are limited because of potential risks to the fetus, particularly in the early months. However, infections may result in preterm labour or other problems and so treatment is needed. Increasingly, resistance is reported among common pathogens to older agents, such as ampicillin or amoxicillin, that have been widely used in pregnancy.

In 29 infants with II and III degree of undernutrition, the studies were performed of the granulocyte system including: the number of granulocytes in the bone marrow reserve pool, circulating pool, parietal and total peripheral blood, phagocytosis evaluation, NBT test and the activity of granulocytic enzymes-alkaline phosphatase and peroxidase. The following deviations were found in comparison to children of the same age with normal body weight: 1. Significant decrease of the reserve granulocyte pool in the bone marrow in children with considerable undernutrition, reaching the value of bone marrow reserve in newborn.

A 7-year-old boy is reported with chronic granulomatous disease who was admitted to hospital for persistent vomiting, dysphagia, epigastric pains. After endoscopy of the digestive tract a granulomatous tissue infiltration was found in the oesophagus above the cardia and in the cardia. Treatment resulted in disappearance of gastric signs and during 2 years of follow-up no signs were found suggesting recurrence of the infiltration.
