The study examines if helical Tomotherapy (HT) during free breathing (FB) can be a viable treatment option for left-sided breast cancer patients who can't use the deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) technique.
Using CT images from 20 patients, the researchers compared dosimetric outcomes between the HT-FB and VMAT-DIBH techniques, focusing on target coverage and the preservation of surrounding healthy tissues.
Results indicated that while both methods effectively covered the treatment target, HT-FB offered superior protection for the left lung and LAD, although it requires careful assessment of doses to the contralateral breast and lung.
