The thymus, a key organ in the adaptive immune system, is sensitive to a variety of insults including cytotoxic preconditioning, which leads to atrophy, compression of the blood vascular system, and alterations in hemodynamics. Although the thymus has innate regenerative capabilities, the production of T cells relies on the trafficking of lymphoid progenitors from the bone marrow through the altered thymic blood vascular system. Our understanding of thymic blood vascular hemodynamics is limited due to technical challenges associated with accessing the native thymus in live mice.

Women living with HIV (WLWH) suffer from poor viral suppression and retention postpartum. The effect of perinatal depression on care continuum outcomes during pregnancy and postpartum is unknown. We performed a retrospective cohort analysis using HIV surveillance data of pregnant WLWH enrolled in perinatal case management in Philadelphia and evaluated the association between possible or definite depression with four outcomes: viral suppression at delivery, care engagement within three months postpartum, retention and viral suppression at one-year postpartum.

Bronchiectasis is associated with sputum containing high levels of the proteolytic enzyme elastase, which is thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. Agents which inhibit neutrophil function and interfere with neutrophil elastase release may have a beneficial effect on the development and progression of such diseases. We have studied the effects of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent indomethacin on neutrophil function in nine patients with clinically stable bronchiectasis.
