Objective: Evidence characterizing a starting angle of radiofrequency (RF) cannula insertion during radiofrequency neurotomy is lacking. Using computerized tomography (CT), this retrospective observational study attempts to establish a starting angle for RF cannula placement parallel to the transverse process (TP) at the junction of the superior articular process (SAP) near the targeted medial branch.

Methods: This retrospective observational study utilized lumbar spine CT scans performed on adult cancer patients from January 2016 to May 2021 ​at a single center.

Objectives: With the development of percutaneously inserted devices, peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) has been gaining attention within chronic pain literature as a less invasive neurostimulation alternative to spinal column and dorsal root ganglion stimulation. A majority of current PNS literature focuses on targeting individual distal nerves to treat individual peripheral mononeuropathies, limiting its applications. This article discusses our experience treating dermatomal pain with neurostimulation without needing to access the epidural space by targeting the proximal spinal nerve with peripheral nerve stimulation under ultrasound-guidance.

Objectives: Temporary, percutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) has been shown to provide analgesia for acute postoperative pain, postamputation pain, and low back pain. The implanted device stimulates the neural target for up to 60 days at which point the leads are extracted. Patients have demonstrated prolonged analgesia continuing after extraction of the leads.
