Cardiomyopathy accounts for 11.5% cause of pregnancy-related deaths. The causes of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) are unknown, including predisposing factors such as abnormal response to the greater hemodynamic burden of pregnancy, viral myocarditis, malnutrition, inflammation, and apoptosis.
