Treatment of [Au2Pd(dppm)(d-pen)2] ([1]) with Cu(NO3)2 gave a 1D (AuI2PdIICuII2)n coordination polymer, [Cu2(1)2(H2O)4](NO3)4 ([2](NO3)4), which was reversibly converted to its dehydrated species, [Cu2(1)2(H2O)2](NO3)4 ([3](NO3)4), with retention of crystallinity. The magnetic feature of [2](NO3)4 differs dramatically from that of [3](NO3)4, showing an unusual loop in the course of the magnetic susceptibility measurements due to the reversible opening and closing motions of dicopper(ii) paddle wheels in the solid state.

A "mouse in a trap" method for cerebral protection during carotid stenting: Technical note.

Carotid artery angioplasty and stenting (CAS) is now used as an alternative to surgical endarterectomy. The introduction of cerebral protection systems during stenting has improved carotid artery stenosis treatment, with less periprocedural complications. A "mouse in a trap" method was conceived and used in three patients.

Analytical approach to the discoloration of edible laver "nori" in the Ariake Sea.

To understand the cause of discoloration of the sea laver "nori," which is found in the Ariake Sea, the concentrations of pigments and elements in the normal and discolored laver samples were determined. In the discolored samples, a decrease in all of the pigments, chlorophyll a and carotenoids, and proteinous pigments, phycobiliproteins, was clearly observed. This was accompanied by a decrease in the content of Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, and P.

Operative findings in cases of trigeminal neuralgia without vascular compression: proposal of a different mechanism.

Trigeminal neuralgia is known to be caused by vascular compression at the trigeminal root entry zone (REZ) and microvascular decompression provides good outcome in most of cases. However, in some cases, no vascular compression was observed at the REZ. Over the last 2(1/2) years, the first author operated on 53 cases of trigeminal neuralgia with microvascular decompression and encountered nine cases where no offending vessels were noted at or near the REZ.

A new idea for a protective balloon system during carotid stenting.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stenting for high-grade carotid stenosis has been recently come into use. However, distal embolic events remain a problem with this procedure compared to results with established carotid endarterectomy. [A case of cavernous dural arteriovenous fistula resulting in intracerebral extravasation during transvenous embolization].

Cortical venous drainage has been described as one of the major risk factors for dural arteriovenous fistula, which may induce venous hypertension leading to venous ischemia or intracerebral hemorrhage. However, it is rather rare to observe cortical venous drainage manifesting in this way in the cavernous sinus region.
