Hand-foot syndrome (HFS) is a common side effect of fluoropyrimidine anticancer drugs and often becomes a dose-limiting manifestation of toxicity once it occurs. The precise mechanism of HFS remains unclear, and effective measures to prevent or relieve it are currently limited. To investigate the pathogenesis of HFS and effective measures for treating or preventing it, establishment of animal models is crucial.

Nonhuman primates (NHPs), which have many advantages in scientific research and are often the only relevant animals to use in assessing the safety profiles and biological or pharmacological effects of drug candidates, including biologics. In scientific or developmental experiments, the immune systems of animals can be spontaneously compromised possibly due to background infection, experimental procedure-associated stress, poor physical condition, or intended or unintended mechanisms of action of test articles. Under these circumstances, background, incidental, or opportunistic infections can seriously can significantly complicate the interpretation of research results and findings and consequently affect experimental conclusions.

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is an intractable cancer, and its incidence in northeastern Thailand is the highest worldwide. Infection with the liver fluke (OV) has been associated with CCA risk. However, animal experiments have suggested that OV alone does not induce CCA, but its combination with a chemical carcinogen like nitrosamine can cause experimentally induced CCA in hamsters.

Background: Hand hygiene compliance is important for the prevention of healthcare-associated infections. The conventional method of measuring hand disinfection guidelines involves an external observer watching the staff personnel, which introduces bias, and observations are only made for a set period of time. An unbiased, non-invasive automated system for assessing hand sanitization actions can provide a better estimate of compliance.

Synovial inflammation plays a central role in joint destruction and pain in osteoarthritis (OA). The NF-κB pathway plays an important role in the inflammatory process and is activated in OA. A previous study reported that a jietacin derivative (JD), (Z)-2-(8-oxodec-9-yn-1-yl)-1-vinyldiazene 1-oxide, suppressed the nuclear translocation of NF-κB in a range of cancer cell lines.

2,2,5,5-Tetramethyl-3,6-diphenyl-2,5-dihydropentalene-1,4-dione (PD-H) and its dimethoxy (PD-OCH) and bis(trifluoromethyl) derivatives (PD-CF) were developed as a new class of compounds possessing a wide excited singlet-triplet energy gap. The PD derivatives would also have a high energy level of the triplet-excited state ( ) due to the planarity of the fused-diene subunit. The results of photophysical studies revealed that the energy level of the singlet-excited state ( ) and of PD-H are 2.

Triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA)-assisted photon upconversion (TTA-UC) in three dyads (DPA-Cn-DPA), comprised of two diphenylanthracene (DPA) moieties connected by nonconjugated C1, C2, and C3 linkages (Cn), has been investigated. The performance of these dyads as energy acceptors in the presence of the energy donor platinum octaethylporphyrin are characterized by longer triplet lifetimes (τ) and different TTA rate constants than those of the parent DPA. The larger τ of the linked systems, caused by "intramolecular energy hopping" in the triplet dyad DPA*-Cn-DPA, results in a low threshold intensity, a key characteristic of efficient TTA-UC.
