In order to improve the antibacterial activity of aminobenzylpenicillin, penicillin derivatives having an asparagine moiety in the 6-acyl side chain (11a approximately g, 12a, b, f, g) were synthesized. The structure-activity relationship of new penicillins, N4-alkyl-asparaginylaminobenzylpenicillins, was investigated. N4-Methyl-D-asparaginylamoxicillin (11a), TA-058, was found to possess a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

The drug did not affect 6-hourly and daily eruption rates of the unimpeded mandibular incisor of the rat. It is suggested that the tooth eruption is not inhibited by the disruption of microfilaments because the disruption was not associated with the motility of the cells and/or that the motility of the cells is not associated with the motive force of tooth eruption. Further studies may be necessary to confirm that the effects of cytochalasin B are on both microfilaments and motility of the periodontal fibroblasts.

September 1981

The assay kit of Toxoplasma latex agglutination (LA) microtiters (Toxotest and Toxocheck "Eiken") was applied for the diagnosis of Toxoplasma infection in pig, cat, dog and some rodents. Frequency distribution of the LA titers of pigs and cats showed a through at 1:32. The starting point of the reaction for positive diagnosis was 1:64 dilution in these animals and the kit was found to be practical and useful.

In vitro activities of M-4365 G2, a new basic 16-membered macrolide antibiotic, against a total 19 strains including human, bovine, porcine, rodent, avian and saprophytic mycoplasmas were compared with those of three other macrolide antibiotics, josamycin, erythromycin and tylosin. M-4365 G2 exhibited stronger activities than the other macrolide antibiotics against 11 strains of mycoplasma tested. Especially, its higher activities against M.

A new operative technique for the removal of renal calculi, dismembered pyelolithotomy, is described. This operation was performed on 6 patients with staghorn renal calculi or multiple renal calculi with satisfactory results. This approach is effective in removing renal calculi without renal ischemic damage.
