Angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL) is a peripheral T cell lymphoma, known to express CD3 and CD4, and, frequently, also CD10 and c-Maf-1. Hypergammaglobulinemia is not particularly rare in patients with AITL. However, AITL in conjunction with plasmacytosis in the peripheral blood is rare.

The protein nestin, a neuronal stem cell marker, has been reported to indicate a poor prognosis in various tumours. Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies in humans, and its molecular background has not been identified. The present study evaluated the expression of nestin and its significance in ATC.

Embryonal tumor with abundant neuropil and true rosettes in the brainstem: case report.

Embryonal tumor with abundant neuropil and true rosettes (ETANTR) is rarely seen in the brainstem, and there are few case reports of brainstem ETANTR in the literature. Accordingly, the characteristics and the role of surgical treatment of this rare entity remain unclear. The authors present a case of brainstem ETANTR involving a 33-month-old boy along with a review of the literature and discuss the role of surgical removal in the treatment of this entity.

Oseltamivir, an anti-influenza virus drug, induces marked hypothermia in normal mice. We have proposed that the hypothermic effect arises from inhibition of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor function of sympathetic ganglion neurons which innervate the brown adipose tissue (a heat generator). It has been reported that local anesthetics inhibit nicotinic acetylcholine receptor function by acting on its ionic channels, and that bupropion, a nicotinic antagonist, induces hypothermia.

Oxaliplatin (L-OHP) is a platinum-based anticancer drug used to treat colorectal, pancreatic, and stomach cancers. However, it often causes acute and chronic peripheral neuropathies including cold allodynia and mechanical hyperalgesia.

Community Structure and Survival of Tertiary Relict Thuja sutchuenensis (Cupressaceae) in the Subtropical Daba Mountains, Southwestern China.

A rare coniferous Tertiary relict tree species, Thuja sutchuenensis Franch, has survived in the Daba Mountains of southwestern China. It was almost eliminated by logging during the past century. We measured size and age structures and interpreted regeneration dynamics of stands of the species in a variety of topographic contexts and community associations.

Nonfunctional adrenocortical carcinoma initially presenting as retroperitoneal hemorrhage.

Background: Acute adrenal hemorrhage is an uncommon entity. Although trauma is the most common cause of adrenal hemorrhage, non-traumatic etiologies have also been reported. We report an unusual case of a spontaneously ruptured adrenocortical carcinoma that initially presented as a critical massive retroperitoneal hemorrhage.

Ambulatory sentinel lymph node biopsy preceding neoadjuvant therapy in patients with operable breast cancer: a preliminary study.

Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB)-oriented stepwise treatment under local anesthesia has been performed in the outpatient-ambulatory setting in patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy (NAT). We retrospectively reviewed our preliminary experience of ambulatory SNB in breast cancer patients scheduled to undergo NAT to evaluate the usefulness and feasibility of this method as a minimally invasive, stepwise treatment protocol.

Methods: We retrospectively identified 56 patients with breast cancer without obvious nodal involvement who were scheduled to receive NAT before breast surgery.

Background: The relative and absolute risks of outcomes other than all-cause death (ACD) attributable to atrial fibrillation (AF) stratified age have not been sufficiently investigated.

Methods: A prospective study of 23,634 community dwellers aged 40 years or older without organic cardiovascular disease (AF=335, non-AF=23,299) was conducted. Multivariate-adjusted rates, rate ratios (RRs) and excess deaths (EDs) for ACD, cardiovascular death (CVD) and non-cardiovascular death (non-CVD), and sex- and age-adjusted RR and ED in middle-aged (40 to 69) and elderly (70 years or older) for ACD, CVD, non-CVD, sudden cardiac death (SCD), stroke-related death (Str-D), neoplasm-related death (NPD), and infection-related death (IFD) attributable to AF were estimated using Poisson regression.

The patient subsequently underwent local and lymph node recurrence, for which she received heavy ion radiotherapy and lymph node dissection, respectively.

Objectives: It has been reported that chlorinated organic solvent is a cause of hepatitis.

Methods: we investigate clinical and pathological findings of a patient with severe acute hepatitis who was exposed to chlorinated organic solvents.

Results: A 34-year-old man who was exposed to chlorinated organic solvents including dichloromethane, 1,2-dichloropropane, and trichloroethylene, presented with general fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Cholangiocarcinoma in a middle-aged patient working at a printing plant.

A 39-year-old male with elevated serum transferases consulted our hospital in September 2010. Since 1999, he had worked at a printing company using organic solvents. Cholangiography revealed stenosis of the left hepatic duct with peripheral dilation, stricture of the right hepatic duct, and irregularity of the extrahepatic bile duct.
