Effect of LH-RH treatment on hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis and Leydig cell ultrastructure in cryptorchid boys.

62 cryptorchid boys aged 2-6 years were selected at random either for surgical or for hormonal LH-RH treatment. As all biopsies from boys operated show typical histological and ultrastructural signs of cryptorchidism, it can be concluded that only true cryptorchid patients are included in our study. LH-RH treatment was successful in 16 (55%) of 31 boys.

Changes of serum testosterone and of LH-RH test after treatment of cryptorchidism by intranasal LH-RH.

The aim of the present investigation was to study, in a collaborative double-blind study, the treatment with intranasal LH-RH application of boys aged 1 1/2 to 12 years, who suffered from unilateral or bilateral cryptorchidism. A total of 88 subjects were randomly and blindly allocated to LH-RH and placebo therapy. Before and after 4 weeks of treatment basal testosterone serum levels were estimated and LH-RH tests were performed.

Subunit structure of hemoglobins from erythrocytes of the blood clam, Anadara broughtonii.

Intracellular hemoglobins of the sea blood clam Anadara broughtonii consist of HbI dimer (33%) and HbII tetramer (60%). The molecular weights of globins of HbI and HbII were determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-gel electrophoresis to be 15,500 and 16,500, respectively. The existence of two dissimilar chains, alpha and beta, in globin from HbII tetramer was confirmed electrophoretically and the chains were separated by CM-cellulose chromatography in 8 M urea.

Studies on the heterotropic interaction of hemoglobin. I. Mass spectrometric method for determination of the pKa of the beta-146 histidine residue in human hemoglobin.

A mass spectrometric method was developed to determine pH-dependent hydrogen-deuterium exchange at the C-2 position of the imidazole ring of histidine, after converting the amino acid to the methylthiohydantoin derivative. The amount of deuterium exchange in N-acetyl-histidine estimated by the present method was confirmed to be in good agreement with that determined by NMR spectrometry. N-Acetylhistidine was deuterated at various pH's.
