Objectives: In Japan, population-based epidemiological data on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections are limited. To elucidate the epidemiology of RSV before the introduction of new prophylactic drugs, we conducted a population-based study during and after the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Methods: This study was performed in four hospitals in Chiba City and three hospitals in Ichihara City.

Stress can cause mental disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders. To detect such mental disorders at an early stage, it is necessary to detect stress accurately. One of the effective methods for this purpose is observing changes in biological signals caused by sensory stimuli such as video presentation.

About 20 years ago, a femtosecond laser emerged as a new shock-driver. Unlike conventional shock waves, a femtosecond laser-driven shock wave creates unique microstructures in materials.

Patients/methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from 317 patients who were current smokers and underwent spine surgery between January 2014 and December 2019 at a single facility in Tokyo, Japan.
The oxytocin receptor (OXTR) knockout mouse is a model of autism spectrum disorder, characterized by abnormalities in social and olfactory behaviors and learning. Previously, we demonstrated that OXTR plays a crucial role in regulating aversive olfactory behavior to butyric acid odor. In this study, we attempted to determine whether coffee aroma affects the abnormal olfactory behavior of OXTR-Venus knock-in heterozygous mice [heterozygous OXTR (±) mice] using a set of behavioral and molecular experiments.

DMHF could affect the palatability of cooked and processed foods such as meat, while its inhalation induces several physiological functions. However, basic findings of DMHF generation in meat remain unclear.

She was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer with invasion to the liver, extrahepatic bile duct, right hepatic artery and portal vein. After endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage, she received chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin.

Therefore, this issue must be addressed appropriately. Naldemedine (NAL), a peripherally-acting μ-opioid receptor antagonist, is currently recommended for treating OIC when other laxatives are ineffective, but there have been no clinical reports of NAL being used prophylactically for OIC.

A 70s-year-old women visited the local hospital because of productive cough. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed a 10 mm nodule in the right middle lobe, multiple lymph nodes swelling and small pleural nodules.

The accumulation of autopsy cases will elucidate the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and aid in the development of effective therapeutics.

Thirteen-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is recommended for immunocompromised patients aged 6 years and older and adults who had not received the vaccine previously. However, vaccination for these individuals is not publicly subsidized in Japan.

The inhalation of both essential oils significantly increased miosis rate and fingertip temperature and could induce parasympathetic dominance by suppressing sympathetic nerve activity. Oxyhemoglobin concentration in the prefrontal cortex increased after the inhalation of yuzu essential oil and decreased after the inhalation of iyokan essential oil.

We developed a rapid and accurate method for quantifying gaseous phase odorants using headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) in conjunction with GC-MS and used our system to quantify alkylpyrazine analogs in the Y-maze. Rapid extraction of volatile compounds in the vapor phase achieved accurate quantitative analysis of gaseous alkylpyrazine analogs at several locations in the Y-maze. We also used a series of three SPME fibers to quantify changes in the concentration over time.

Although it is known that red blood cell (RBC) parameters and platelet count depend on ethnicity and sex, their reference intervals in healthy Asian populations are limited. The aim of this study was to establish reference intervals for RBC parameters and platelet count for healthy adults in Japan. A total of 750 healthy adults (447 women and 303 men; median age 40 years (18-67 years) at seven Japanese centers who participated in regular medical checkups entered this study.

The present study established reference intervals of WBC parameters for healthy adults in Japan.

An allylarylation of electron-deficient alkenes with aryl boronates and allylic carbonates has been developed. This method allows access to a wide variety of carbon skeletons from readily available starting materials. Mechanistic studies indicate that this reaction is enabled by a cooperative catalysis based on merging Pd /Pd redox and Pd /Pd non-redox catalytic cycles.

Considering the complicated history of the vaccine policy in Japan, some susceptible populations became infected with rubella, resulting in an outbreak. We conducted a large serosurveillance against rubella in Chiba city after initiating free rubella-specific antibody testing and an immunization campaign during 2018-2019.

In the case of gas mixers examined, a total of 95 patterns of their attitudes as well as different directions of the gas flows were examined, and it was found that the signal variation and the washout time were strongly dependent on these factors. Even in a simple Y-shaped fitting (Y-mixer), signal stability and washout time had large variations with respect to its different attitudes as well as gas flow directions.
