Role of activated intrarenal reactive oxygen species and renin-angiotensin system in IgA nephropathy model mice.

Induction of mesothelioma by a single intrascrotal administration of multi-wall carbon nanotube in intact male Fischer 344 rats.

The present study assessed a carcinogenic hazard of multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) in intact (not genetically modified) rodents. MWCNT (1 mg/kg body weight, 7 animals), crocidolite (2 mg/kg body weight, 10 animals) or vehicle (2% carboxymethyl cellulose, 5 animals) was administered to male Fischer 344 rats (12 weeks old) by a single intrascrotal injection. Rats were autopsied immediately after death, when becoming moribund or at the end of the maximal observation period scheduled to be 52 weeks.

A highly potent CXCR4 antagonist 2 [cyclo (-D-Tyr1-Arg2-Arg3-Nal4-Gly5-)] has previously been identified by screening cyclic pentapeptide libraries that were designed based on pharmacophore residues of a 14-residue peptidic CXCR4 antagonist 1. In the present study, D-Tyr and Arg in peptide 2 were replaced by a bicyclic aromatic amino acid and a cationic amino acid, respectively, and their binding activity for CXCR4 was evaluated for identification of the novel pharmacophore.

Background: Cardiac autonomic neuropathy, representing decreased parasympathetic nerve activity and predominance of sympathetic tone, is often encountered in diabetic patients, and leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular events including arrhythmia. To evaluate the potential cardiovascular risk of diabetics in performing esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), we compared the autonomic function and cardiovascular parameters during EGD between diabetic and nondiabetic patients.

Prevalence and genetic diversity of Bartonella species isolated from wild rodents in Japan.

Here, we describe for the first time the prevalence and genetic properties of Bartonella organisms in wild rodents in Japan. We captured 685 wild rodents throughout Japan (in 12 prefectures) and successfully isolated Bartonella organisms from 176 of the 685 rodents (isolation rate, 25.7%).

Intrarenal angiotensin II and angiotensinogen augmentation in chronic angiotensin II-infused mice.
