Background: The trigger finger is a common condition of the hand that is treated by family physicians, orthopedic and hand surgeons. The patients suffer from pain, triggering of the finger and may develop a flexion contracture of the finger, causing significant functional limitations.

Aim: The objectives of this study were to evaluate factors involved in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition, as well as the differences in treatment between specialists.

We present a literature review of collaborative enterprises between psychiatrists and primary care physicians in Israel and other countries. Also described are local psychiatric liaison initiatives in Israel, as well as landmark studies of collaborative psychiatric care. These studies demonstrate the superiority of community psychiatric liaison models in the treatment of patients suffering from depressive anxiety disorders and somatization disorder.

Introduction: A consultation model between primary care physicians and psychiatrists that has been in operation for 12 years in the Jerusalem district of the Clalit Health Services in Israel is evaluated. In this model psychiatrists provide consultations twice a month at the primary care clinic. All patients are referred by their family physicians.
