Purpose Of Review: Many patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have additional medical problems that can have an impact on morbidity and mortality. The goal of this review is to summarize the available evidence to date on the association of medical comorbidities with PsA and the implications these comorbidities have on prognosis, therapy selection and treatment response.

Recent Findings: Cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease Crohn's disease, ophthalmic disease, depression and anxiety are common comorbidities associated with PsA.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is an inflammatory arthritis associated with psoriasis that can lead to decreased health-related quality of life and permanent joint damage leading to functional decline. In addition to joint and skin manifestations, both psoriasis and PsA are associated with numerous comorbidities and extraarticular/cutaneous manifestations, which may influence the physician's choice of therapy. The objectives of this review are (1) to identify comorbidities in patients with PsA based on the available evidence; (2) to examine the effects of these comorbidities or extraarticular/cutaneous manifestation on the management of patients with PsA as well as the selection of therapy; and (3) to highlight research needs around comorbidities and treatment paradigms.

Purpose: The aims of this study are to examine the validity of diagnostic codes for psoriatic arthritis in The Health Improvement Network (THIN) and to examine the agreement between General Practitioner (GP) report and prescription records for disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).

Methods: Questionnaires were sent to the GPs of 100 randomly selected patients with at least one medical record code for psoriatic arthritis. The positive predictive value (PPV) for a GP confirmed diagnosis was calculated, and alternative algorithms were examined to determine which method resulted in the highest PPV.

Objectives: To describe histological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural features of synovial biopsies of amyloid arthropathy associated with multiple myeloma (MM).

Methods: Synovial biopsies from affected joints of two patients with MM and amyloid arthropathy were examined with light and electron microscopy, and immunohistochemically for expression of CD3, CD8, CD20, CD38, CD68, Ki-67 and vWF. Results were compared to values from osteoarthritis (OA, n = 26), rheumatoid arthritis (RA, n = 24) and normal (n = 15) synovial membranes.

Objective: Psoriasis (PSO) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) increase cardiovascular diseases (CVD) beyond traditional risk factors. Vascular inflammation has previously been demonstrated to be present in PSO and RA using [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) imaging. We estimated hazard ratios (HRs) for incident diabetes in PsA, psoriasis and RA cohorts compared with age- and sex-matched comparison cohorts without the corresponding conditions, adjusting for BMI, smoking, alcohol use, co-morbidities and glucocorticoids at baseline.

At the 2012 annual meeting of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and PsA (GRAPPA) in Stockholm, Sweden, members addressed the infectious, oncologic, and autoimmune comorbidities of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Members discussing infectious comorbidities asked whether patients with psoriasis or PsA are predisposed to particular types of infections, and whether the use of biologic agents is advisable in patients with certain preexisting infections. Regarding the oncologic comorbidities of psoriasis and PsA, members addressed cutaneous malignancy screening, lymphoproliferative malignancy risk and the need for screening, and treatment of patients with preexisting oncologic history requiring systemic therapy.

Background: Magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging and perfusion-weighted imaging are able to identify ischaemic 'footprints' in transient ischaemic attack. Computed tomography perfusion (CTP) may be useful for patient triage and subsequent management. Although associations between autoimmune disorders (AIs) and the development of myeloid neoplasms have been described, the pathologic features and natural history of these malignancies have not been well characterized. We evaluated whether patients with AIs with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) were similar in nature to patients traditionally considered to have therapy-related AML (t-AML).
