Fusion-associated small transmembrane (FAST) proteins are nonstructural viral proteins that induce cell-cell fusion. FAST proteins, which previously were identified in the genomes of double-stranded RNA viruses, typically contain an acylated N-terminal ectodomain, central transmembrane domain, and C-terminal endodomain with a polybasic region. Using sequence homology and protein motif prediction, we identified accessory proteins in a subset of avian deltacoronaviruses as putative FAST proteins.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features that could help differen-tiate the bone destruction due to persistent/recurrent spine infection from worsening bone destruction due to mechanical factors, which could help obviate the need for repeat spine biopsy.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study was performed on selected subjects who were more than 18 years of age, were diagnosed with infectious spondylodiscitis, underwent at least 2 spinal interventions for the diagnosis at the same level, and had MRI prior to each image-guided intervention. Both MRI studies were analysed for vertebral body changes, paravertebral collections, epidural thickening and collections, bone marrow signal changes, loss of vertebral body height, abnormal signal in intervertebral disc, and loss of disc height.

Mammalian orthoreoviruses (reoviruses) serve as potential triggers of celiac disease and have oncolytic properties, making these viruses potential cancer therapeutics. Primary attachment of reovirus to host cells is mainly mediated by the trimeric viral protein, σ1, which engages cell-surface glycans, followed by high-affinity binding to junctional adhesion molecule-A (JAM-A). This multistep process is thought to be accompanied by major conformational changes in σ1, but direct evidence is lacking.

Objectives: To test if intravesical instillation of both an anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitor and an oncolytic reovirus would demonstrate a greater effect than either treatment alone, as non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer that is refractory to intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin can be treated by systemic anti-PD-1 immunotherapy and we previously demonstrated improved overall survival (OS) with six once-weekly instillations of intravesical anti-PD-1 in a murine model.

Materials And Methods: Using an orthotopic syngeneic C3H murine model of MBT2 urothelial bladder cancer, groups of 10 mice were compared between no treatment, intravesical anti-PD-1, intravesical oncolytic reovirus, or intravesical reovirus + anti-PD-1. -Methyl-d-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) are ionotropic ligand-gated glutamate receptors that mediate fast excitatory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system (CNS). Several neurological disorders may involve NMDAR hypofunction, which has driven therapeutic interest in positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) of NMDAR function. Here we describe modest changes to the tetrahydroisoquinoline scaffold of GluN2C/GluN2D-selective PAMs that expands activity to include GluN2A- and GluN2B-containing recombinant and synaptic NMDARs.
