Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) poses a substantial threat to food security. To address this challenge, we used PlantCV to extract CBSD root necrosis image traits from 320 clones, with an aim of identifying genomic regions through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and candidate genes. Results revealed strong correlations among certain root necrosis image traits, such as necrotic area fraction and necrotic width fraction, as well as between the convex hull area of root necrosis and the percentage of necrosis.

In this paper, we test the role of news in the predictability of return volatility of digital currency market during the COVID-19 pandemic. We use hourly data for cryptocurrencies and daily data for the news indicator, thus, the GARCH MIDAS framework which allows for mixed data frequencies is adopted. We validate the presupposition that fear-induced news triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic increases the return volatilities of the cryptocurrencies compared with the period before the pandemic.

This present study reports a novel laboratory protocol, the glucose oxidase peroxidase (GOPOD)-coupled continuous assay (GcCA) which is based on the general principle that all cellulases generate β-d-glucose as one of their hydrolytic products. Resultantly, the β-d-glucose generated serves as a substrate to an auxiliary enzyme, GOPOD, coupled to the cellulase hydrolytic process, in a simultaneous secondary reaction which continuously quantifies the concentration of glucose generated as a measure of incremental cellulase activity in the laboratory. Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SNEDDSs) were developed using well-defined excipients with the objective of mimicking digested SNEDDSs without the use of enzymes and in vitro lipolysis models and thereby enabling studies of the morphology and size of nanoemulsions as well as digested nanoemulsions by Cryo-TEM imaging and Dynamic Light Scattering. Objectives: The aim of this review is to highlight relevant considerations when implementing a rational strategy for the development of lipid and surfactant based drug delivery system and to discuss shortcomings and challenges to the current classification of these delivery systems. We also aim to offer suggestions for an improved classification system that will accommodate lipid based formulations that are not currently accommodated in the lipid formulation classification system.

Background: This study was designed to assess both the potential for bacterial transmission by stethoscopes used by health-care workers in Nigeria and the implications for patient safety and control of hospital-acquired infections.

Methodology: A structured questionnaire was administered to health workers and the surface of the diaphragm of their stethoscopes swabbed for bacteriological analysis using standard techniques.

Results And Conclusions: Of the 107 stethoscopes surveyed, 84 (79%) were contaminated with bacteria; 59 (81%) of the contaminated stethoscopes belonged to physicians and 25 (74%) were from other health workers.

The effect of piperazine citrate on the electrocardiogram of the rat after treatment with piperazine citrate at 30, 60, and 100 mg/kg body weight for 16 weeks was investigated. The results were compared with a control group. There was prolongation of P-R, Q-Tc, and J-T intervals, whereas the QRS interval remained virtually unchanged.
