BH3 mimetics are small‑molecule inhibitors of the antiapoptotic Bcl‑2 family and have therapeutic efficacy against hematological malignancies. BH3 mimetic A‑1331852 suppresses colorectal cancer cell proliferation. Progressive resistance to the widely used anticancer agent fluorouracil (5‑FU) is a key reason for colorectal cancer recurrence; therefore, the present study tested if A‑1331852 can suppress the proliferation of 5‑FU‑resistant colorectal cancer cells.

Article Synopsis
  • Cricothyrotomy is a procedure used to secure an airway in emergency situations and can also help patients expel sputum; however, its overall safety and effectiveness are still being evaluated.
  • A nationwide survey in Japan involved data from 1,001 patients across 116 healthcare facilities between 2010 and 2021, highlighting that most cricothyrotomies (94.4%) were performed for sputum suctioning post-surgery, primarily after esophagectomy.
  • Results indicated lower complication rates for sputum suctioning compared to emergency airway clearance, suggesting that cricothyrotomy is safer for patients recovering from esophagectomy, but additional research is necessary to confirm its benefits.

We propose a new type of CNT hydrogel that has unique conductive and reversible characteristics. We found in previous studies that CNT dispersions became gelatinous without any gelators when a specific CNT was combined with a specific dispersant. This hydrogel has conductive properties derived mainly from the CNTs it contains; and even after gelation, it can be returned to a liquid state by ultrasonic irradiation.

Objective: ACTH-producing pancreatic NETs have a propensity to metastasize, and in patients with metastases, there is no established method yet to precisely determine if the excess ACTH is produced by the primary or the metastatic tumors. Localizing the source of production of ACTH in such cases is important for devising suitable treatment strategies and evaluating the benefit of local therapies from the viewpoint of control of Cushing's syndrome.

Methods: We performed the selective arterial calcium injection (SACI) test combined with selective portal and hepatic venous sampling in a 32-year-old female patient with ectopic ACTH-producing pancreatic NET and liver metastases.
