Close relationship between melanocytes and neural cells is accepted to reflect their common derivation from the neural crest and tumors combining both elements. We present a series of 10 patients with giant congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) in which a secondary proliferation (11 lesions) with schwannian and/or perineuriomatous differentiation developed in the course of the disease. The age of the patients (4 male and 6 female) at the time of surgery and histological assessment varied from 3 months to 57 years.

Abernethy malformation or congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt is an extremely rare condition whereby the portomesenteric blood drains into a systemic vein and bypasses the liver through a complete or partial shunt. Severe complications include hyperammonemia and encephalopathy, benign and malignant liver tumors, and hepatopulmonary syndrome. We describe a case where a female adult diagnosed with congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt subsequently developed focal nodular hyperplasia and then hepatocellular carcinoma.

Multifocal ganglioneuromas are characterized by the presence of multiple benign neuroepithelial tumor nodules and are less common than solitary tumors. A small percentage of ganglioneuromas present with a fatty appearance. The preservation of the posterior cruciate ligament in cruciate retaining (CR) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) designs has the potential to restore healthy knee biomechanics; however, concerns related to kinematic asymmetries during functional activities still exist in unilateral TKA patients. As there is a limited data available regarding the ability of the contemporary CR TKA design with concave medial and convex lateral tibial polyethylene bearing components to restore healthy knee biomechanics, this study aimed to investigate in vivo three-dimensional knee kinematics in CR TKA patients during strenuous knee flexion activities and gait. Background: Ratios of established inflammatory markers, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP), have been used for diagnostic purposes in the surgical field; however, the ESR:CRP ratio (ECR) has not been evaluated as a marker for predicting infection resolution in patients with periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs). This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ECR in predicting postoperative reinfection in patients who underwent debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR).

Background: Metal artifact reduction sequence (MARS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been recommended as a cross-sectional imaging modality in clinical evaluation of adverse local tissue reactions (ALTRs) in metal-on-metal (MoM) patients and metal-on-polyethylene (MoP) patients with taper corrosion. The aim of the study was to compare MARS MRI characteristics of ALTR in MoM total hip arthroplasty (THA) with ALTR in MoP THA with modular taper corrosion.

Methods: A total of 197 patients with ALTR were evaluated: 86 patients with MoM THA; 37 MoP patients with head-neck taper corrosion; and 74 MoP patients with neck-stem dual taper corrosion.
