Objective: Hepatitis B reactivation has been reported in chronic carriers of hepatitis B [hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)] or in patients with prior hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection who are HBsAg-negative and have antibodies against hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) with or without antibodies to HBsAg (anti-HBs). Lamivudine has been the first and commonly used nucleoside analog to inhibit HBV replication; however, prolonged therapy has been associated with an increased risk for drug-resistant mutations and mortality rates. Entecavir, a deoxyguanosine analog, offers several advantages over lamivudine for the treatment of HBV reactivation following chemotherapy while exhibiting more potent antiviral activity and a lower resistance rate.

This study describes the in vitro metabolism of [(14)C]dasatinib in liver tissue incubations from rat, monkey, and human and the in vivo metabolism in rat and monkey. Across species, dasatinib underwent in vitro oxidative metabolism to form five primary oxidative metabolites. In addition to the primary metabolites, secondary metabolites formed from combinations of the oxidative pathways and conjugated metabolites of dasatinib and its oxidative metabolites were also observed in hepatocytes incubations.

Stavudine, a potent antiviral agent for treating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections, was radiolabeled with (11)C by methylation of a specifically designed precursor, 5'-O-(2-tetrahydropyranyl)-5-bromo-2',3'-didehydro-3'-deoxythymidine, with (11)C H(3)I. The radiolabeled drug was isolated by reverse phase HPLC. A total time of approximately 45 minutes was required for synthesis, purification and isolation of (11)C stavudine with chemical and radiochemical purities of greater than 98%.

(3S)-(+)-(5-Chloro-2-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-dihydro-3-fluoro-6-(trifluoromethyl)-2H-indole-2-one) (MaxiPost, BMS-204352) is a potent and specific opener for maxi-K channels and has potential to prevent and treat ischemic stroke. Following single intravenous doses of [14C]BMS-204352 to rats, only 10 to 12% of radioactivity was extractable from plasma with organic solvents. Paramagnetic macromolecules like Gd-DTPA labeled albumin offer certain beneficial features that distinguish them from smaller molecular paramagnetic contrast media, such as Gd-DTPA dimeglumine, which generally distribute in the extracellular fluid space. By joining multiple paramagnets to one large carrier molecule, the molar dose of the agent necessary for image enhancement is reduced, the proton relaxation effectiveness of such macromolecular agents is increased and they may even serve as markers of perfusion and abnormal vascular permeability. The possible relationship between high numbers of fecal coliforms (FCs), fecal streptococci (FS), standard plate count (SPCs) and well characteristics viz: well depth, water column, temperature, pH and non-filterable residue in 25 rural community wells in the Port Harcourt region, Nigeria, was studied. Zonal differences in residue level, well depth and fecal indicator bacteria were observed; these parameters were lowest in an area of high population density (slum) reclaimed from and adjacent to mangrove forests. The applicability of the anaerobic membrane filtration method to faecal coliform counts was tested on 88 water samples from the Port Harcourt area of the Rivers State of Nigeria.
