Encroachment of vascular plants (VP) in temperate raised bogs, as a consequence of altered hydrological conditions and nutrient input, is widely observed. Effects of such vegetation shift on water and carbon cycles are, however, largely unknown and identification of responsible plant physiological traits is challenging. Process-based modelling offers the opportunity of gaining insights into ecosystem functioning beyond observations, and to infer decisive trait shifts of plant functional groups.

Background: As a critical infrastructure (CRITIS) and soft target with high symbolic power, hospitals have to prepare for terrorist attacks, rampages, and establish damage-prevention measures.
Method: The terrorist threat situation was quantified using an evaluation of the terrorist event database (TED) from 1970 to 2017. Additionally, the threat perception and precautionary measures were recorded by an online survey among the leaders of German emergency departments.
Background: Critical infrastructure (CRITIS) in hospitals has become the focus of resilience research due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and also the events in Ukraine. This foundational research examines overall contexts, categorizing and quantifying them. Previous research examined limited scale damage situations with little CRITIS involvement: Worst case studies are missing.

After 18 months, mepolizumab was added to omalizumab because of increased blood eosinophils and a deterioration of asthma control. Asthma was then under control for the next 18 months.

There are obvious parallels between civilian disaster medicine and military combat care. The integration of disaster and deployment medicine into the medical curriculum thus seems necessary.

Over the course of the past decade the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin has taken steps to improve the quality of the theses completed by its doctoral students in medicine and increase their publication activity. This study was designed to verify the efficacy of these measures and to detect general trends.

Splanchnic hypotension leads to necrosis of the bile duct cells as well as to damage to hepatocytes. Furthermore, the liver is a very immunologically active organ so that damage to the liver can increase the amount of proinflammatory cytokines.

This study analyzed chest CT findings at presentation from a large series of patients with IPA, to assess the prevalence of these imaging findings and to evaluate the clinical utility of the halo sign for early identification of this potentially life-threatening infection.
Methods: Baseline chest CT imaging findings from 235 patients with IPA who participated in a previously published study were systematically analyzed.
Purpose: To prospectively evaluate accuracy of gadolinium-enhanced three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance (MR) angiography with gadodiamide and gadopentetate dimeglumine (0.1 mmol/kg), with intraarterial DSA as reference standard, for imaging abdominal and iliac arterial stenoses.
Materials And Methods: The study was approved by all institutional review boards; informed consent was obtained from each subject before procedures.
The role of clinical information and chest film for the discrimination between invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) and its differential diagnoses in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection was studied. The diagnostic performance of clinical information and chest film alone and in combination was studied for eight internists and eight radiologists with regular exposure to IPA patients. The multicenter case sample consisted of 25 patients with proven IPA and 25 with other pulmonary diseases typical for HIV.

Materials And Methods: Mechanical indentation testing, DXA, QCT, pQCT and the radiogrammetry (Cortical Index, CI) were carried out in 70 freshly harvested humeri from 46 human cadavers (23 females, 23-males; median age 70.5 years).
Background: Osteochondroma of the spine is a rare condition. We report a case of a patient with a cervical osteochondroma presenting with a polyneuropathy and polyradiculitis simultaneously.
Case Description: In a liver-transplant patient with progressive neurological deficits a polyneuropathy and a polyradiculitis were diagnosed.
Background: Voriconazole is a broad-spectrum triazole that is active against aspergillus species. We conducted a randomized trial to compare voriconazole with amphotericin B for primary therapy of invasive aspergillosis.
Methods: In this randomized, unblinded trial, patients received either intravenous voriconazole (two doses of 6 mg per kilogram of body weight on day 1, then 4 mg per kilogram twice daily for at least seven days) followed by 200 mg orally twice daily or intravenous amphotericin B deoxycholate (1 to 1.
A major concern about combined pulmonary CT angiography (PCTA) and CT venography (CTV) refers to the additional radiation exposure to the patient. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the organ dose, the effective dose, and the gonadal dose of combined PCTA and CTV. Effective dose and gonadal dose in PCTA and CTV were calculated.

Subjects And Methods: Ninety-four enlarged lymph nodes in 39 adult patients (32 men and seven women; age range, 30-81 years) were examined with B-mode sonography and with unenhanced and contrast-enhanced color Doppler sonography. All patients had carcinoma of the oral cavity.

According to its different location, clinical features, frequency of metastases, treatment modalities and prognosis, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma should well be differentiated from proximal bile duct carcinoma. To date, there is no therapeutic measure with curative potential apart from surgical treatment.
