A Rare Cause for B Symptoms The 78-year-old patient was referred by her general practitioner for a tumor search after a 3-month deterioration of her general condition, B-symptomatology, persistently elevated inflammation values, progressive anemia and renal insufficiency. Given the previously discovered pulmonary nodules and microhematuria, we suspected vasculitis proven by elevated MPO-ANCA levels and a kidney biopsy. Therapy with steroids and cyclophosphamide effected remission.

Here, we have investigated ER stress-induced adaptive mechanisms in C9ORF72-ALS/FTD, focusing on uncovering early endogenous neuroprotective mechanisms and the crosstalk between pathological and adaptive responses in disease onset and progression. We provide evidence for the early onset of ER stress-mediated adaptive response in C9ORF72 patient-derived motoneurons (MNs), reflected by the elevated increase in GRP75 expression.

The evaluation proved Addison's disease due to an autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 2 with Hashimoto thyreoiditis. Under substitution with hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone all the symptoms subsided completely.

Dopamine agonists successfully treat hyperprolactinemia-induced ovarian dysfunction in women, but not elephants. The objective of this study was to determine how longitudinal dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin patterns in African elephants are related to ovarian cycle function.

Current treatment protocols are effective in reducing M. haemofelis blood loads and clinical signs but consistent bacteremia clearance is rarely achieved.

Cats infected with Mhf that clear bacteremia are protected from Mhf reinfection, but the mechanisms of protective immunity are unresolved. In the present study we investigated whether the passive transfer of antibodies from Mhf-recovered cats to naïve recipient cats provided protection against bacteremia and clinical disease following homologous challenge with Mhf; moreover, we characterized the immune response in the recipient cats.

Occlusion of the liver veins discovered by doppler ultrasound caused the portal hypertension and liver disease. Given the erythrocytosis the detection of JAK 2-mutation proved polycythemia vera as underlying disease for the Budd Chiari syndrome.

They may be clinically significant, because adenomas have a malignant potential, in contrast to the benign cholesterol polyps occuring more frequently. As non-neoplastic polyps and neoplastic polyps cannot be morphologically discriminated in ultrasound, maximal diameter of a polyp has proven to be the best predictor for malignancy.
