Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is a rare, poorly understood speech disorder. It is characterized by the patient speaking their native language in a different accent foreign to both the speaker and the listener. A majority of previously reported cases have been described in patients with diagnosed organic brain damage and a handful of other psychiatric disorders.
