Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a greater health impact on ethnoracial minorities, including migrants. Migrants in marginalized communities are harder to reach for health information sharing. Meanwhile, the pandemic has impacted in-person, community-based research.

Collaborative models that bring together actors from both the public and private sector have thus emerged for institutionalized and community-based crisis response. The project also aims to develop empirical knowledge regarding refugee youth's life trajectories and barriers to higher education, which informs collective action to enhance educational policies and programs for refugee youth.
Method: In collaboration with community and student organizations in a midwestern urban area of the United States, we organized a higher education pathway program for Congolese refugee youth and community leaders aspiring to pursue higher education.

Human service organizations are reconfiguring to address diversifying populations and widening inequality. However, institutional change is challenging to implement and fund; resource scarcity and stakeholder buy-in are barriers. In this case study, we analyze a funding-driven, state-initiated program that supports mental health professionals who are people of color in order to decrease health disparities.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDuring the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, the migrant farmworker came to be deemed as 'essential' worker, thereby complicating discourses of 'illegality'. This moment presents an ontological paradox, allowing means for examining the simultaneity of discursivity and materiality within the migrant farmworker as subject. Reflecting upon the 'ontological turn,' this article presents four lessons of ontology: post-representation, a focus on objects/artifacts, posthumanism and the politicizing of ontology, gained from interrogating the unraveling of discourse about the migrant-other in the time of coronavirus.
