The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DKT on chronic constipation.

Methods: This multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded clinical trial enrolled 67 patients with chronic constipation fulfilling Rome III criteria.

A 51-year-old woman was admitted because of hypercalcemia. Neck ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed the presence of parathyroid cysts on both sides. After primary hyperparathyroidism was diagnosed by technetium-99m-methoxyisobutylisonitrile scintigraphy, the patient was successfully treated with total parathyroidectomy and autotransplantation.

Background: Gaseous by-products generated by surgical devices - collectively referred to as 'surgical smoke' - present the hazard of transmitting infective viruses from patients to surgical teams. However, insufficient evidence exists to evaluate and mitigate the risks of SARS-CoV-2 transmission via surgical smoke.

Aim: To demonstrate the existence and infectivity of human coronavirus RNA in surgical smoke using a model experiment and to evaluate the possibility of lowering transmission risk by filtration through a surgical mask.

SJL-1, a C-type lectin, acts as a surface defense molecule in Japanese sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus.

The surface defense molecules of aquatic invertebrates against infectious microorganisms have remained largely unexplored. In the present study, hemagglutinins were isolated from an extract of body surface layer of Japanese sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus, by affinity chromatography with fixed rabbit erythrocyte membranes. The N-terminal sequence of a 15-kDa agglutinin was almost identical with that of SJL-1, a C-type lectin formerly identified in this species.
